I've got a friend I grew up with who's son shot & killed in '24 for the same. It rocked & tore a hole in our community.

He was just providing discipline to his son obviously the son had issue with & 2 in the head.

I've known the guy since 3rd grade & he was a good dude, a good husband, a good father & provider. Wife/mom was beside herself. Saw it firsthand. Quite the struggle.

Its really sad. When I was that age I got the TV and truck taken away from me because of grades in high school. Never once thought about doing that.

All I had was reading and homework. Reading tom Clancy novels was a good thing

Tugboat Captain? I could see some physical abuse and heavy parenting style. Not a stretch of the imagination to assume that the two probably had a bad relationship.

No.

I just know a couple of river pilots and tugboat Captains and I've witnessed how they can be when it comes to their sons.

They can get physical, sometimes going a little too far, and they are definitely overbearing and put a lot of pressure on the son with the expectations and strictness.

I'll say this: he probably didn't think he was being too hard on the boy, and the boy probably thought he was being too hard. But I'll guarantee you that this didn't suddenly happen because of taking away the phone and video games. This was just the trigger that caused the son to snap.

There was a lot of buildup that happened behind the closed doors of that house that will probably get exposed by the defense in trial.

Tom Clancy is my favorite author. Shame there were not more novels written by him.
The other books under his name but by other authors, were never as good.

Well, it did happen in Livingston Parish, so chances are higher than normal.

. Kids who have never known a world without being constantly connected have to develop some deep-rooted psychological obsession or addiction to their devices. Depending on the kid, parents may have to start treading lightly in that regard — and that is a terribly sad and disturbing thing to say. It just doesn't seem to be like grounding or taking away landline type shite most of us dealt with. This just seems completely different.

This is why you wait until a kid is older before you get them their first cell phone. It is also why when you do get them that first tablet you limit their screen time and don't allow the device to be a baby sitter. You also let them know right off the bat that they will lose that phone or tablet if their grades are not kept up or if they are not taking care of business at home. A friend of mine has done that with his daughter and it has worked out well.

How old? And how exactly did the kid have such easy access to a gun (I assume a pistol) to put 2 in the head?

I guess becoming a parent isn't always the most rewarding thing a person can do?

Mitigating, but he’d still do a lot more than a year. Significant psychological abuse would have a “man and 10” kind of ring to it to me.

Or the kid has never been disciplined at all and snapped once the dad did something to make a point. Children that are never punished are almost always the ones that do heinous shite

I know this take is getting down votes but I tend to agree. There is a lot to unpack here but there is no way this is an isolated incident. There was animosity and a build up unless the child had mental problems.

They will allege that BS anyway. The dad could have been Suoerdad to this kid. But in addition to killing him, this psycho and his dirtbag attorney will also destroy his name when he’s no longer here to defend himself. Just like the Menendez brothers .
