The only time I’ve heard of that scenario was Fred’s invitational. Which was a few times a year.
So, you didn’t go to Fred’s very often did you?

I think I’ve seen reports that younger generations consume a lot less alcohol. If that’s true, then it would make sense college bar attendance would suffer. Couple that with the conveniences of modern technology shifting the parameters of social interaction, as well as the rising costs of going out. Maybe it’s just a sign that times they are a changing. Could be permanent or cyclical.
When I check my daughters location on a Friday or Saturday night, she is often at the library or in the Science building.
Last night, she called at 8:30 and was going to bed because she was exhausted after a long week.
While part of me is exceedingly proud, there is a small part that wonders if she is missing out on things during a time in her life where it’s OK to push the boundaries on making a mistake here or there.
On the weekends, she does do a lot of stuff with her friends during the day. I guess backing out day we would be sleeping at noon, etc.

Two gin and tonics at a concert with tip will run you close to $50.

Kids are soft these days.
I'm not saying they should be complete degenerates, but there's a very short period of your life where you can run around and do irresponsible dumb shite.
Take advantage of it because real life comes at you fast.

I've been out twice in the last year and a mixed drink for the wife and one for me comes out to around $30
Where did you go? A dive/college bar on a Monday night may have specials. If you go to Lost Cove or Hayride on a Saturday night you should expect to spend at least $30 for two mixed drinks.

In my opinion, a combination of the economy and these kids having many of their developmental years affected by covid are why you are seeing this

I remember paying $5 cover, all you can drink all night.
I remember $5 cover and penny pitchers of beer all night.
I remember 11 shots for $1 at 11:00 pm.
I remember anyone brining a date over 300 lbs drank free all night

Not nearly as much from what I can see.

Yes. Having your wild phase when you’re a working adult or in a marriage is a recipe for disaster.

Don’t you see the irony? You’re a helicopter parent.

Here's a tip: your wife doesn't want to go to the places that had penny pitchers. The cheat code is a Mexican restaurant. Everyone knows you're going there to get blasted, but it's somehow OK because you call it dinner and buy your kids quesadillas. They specialize in getting women tanked cheap. Even teachers know this.
Yuup and margaritas make a respectable woman do stuff she regrets in the AM.

Did you go out a lot in college?
We did. You could get quarter pool and $1 Rolling Rocks at the Bayou when I was at LSU. $20 in your pocket and you were good.

Lmao…hardly dude. My daughter went to boarding school for high school since she was 14.
That doesn’t seem to comport with the concept of a helicopter parent.
Think before you assume.

Damn near every bar in tigerland had free drinks on Friday and Saturday from 8-10 (free wells and draft) with regular open bars from
8-10 (free everything) about 4-5 times a semester in the 2010s
