Clearly many on here do the same thing, so I'm not knocking you personally. It's just such a weird concept to me. We have always had a joint checking, and we always check with each other first about large purchases. No big deal.
Reading some of the posts here makes me think a lot of people are trying to be married “in name only”, and are just splitting the cost of a house.

Separate personal accounts with a joint account for bill pay.

Our paychecks go in a joint account. My Marine retirement and VA disability go in my Navy Fed account and her small business money goes in her own account.keeps things simple.

Why would you marry someone that you can’t trust to share a checking account with? Wtf?

We have always viewed our finances as combined. Nothing is mine or hers, but we got in the habit of having separate checking accounts when we were young and broke and our balances stayed low most of the time. It was so we could avoid having to keep track of purchases made by the other and spending money that wasn't there.

Will have been married 23 years in April. We've both had independent accounts since we married. Never have co-mingled our income.

It’s always been a joint account, even when I worked

Absolutely not. We’re not trying to get divorced.

Exactly, do the joint only people read all their spouses texts, social media inbox? Do they have to know there phone passcode too? I don’t know my wife’s passcode on her phone and don’t care. How does having separate accounts not equal trust or a loving marriage?
Different strokes for different folks, it doesn’t matter either way, if it works for your marriage

Why would you marry someone you don't trust enough to have their own account? Got to watch her spending to make sure she isn't spending too much on Jody? Works both ways
I just love that everyone in this thread thinks their way is the only way

Couples joint Facebook accounts as well most likely

I don't think this is a trust thing for either side. Some people separate their bills, which is weird to me. We have all money go to the same accounts and pay bills from one checking/day to day spend from the other checking.

Agreed. Seems to me that insisting on joint accounts shows a lack of trust.
The average amount for normal monthly bills goes from both of our paychecks into the joint acct and then we have our own accounts for other shite. If there is a big ticket item that requires us to coordinate monies, then we work it out.
Sadly enough, we do share an Amazon account since I don't want to pay double the yearly Prime fee.

I never understood anyone having a strong opinion on either side of this issue. Any true marriage built to last would easily be able to make either option work. So it should simply be a matter of personal preference.

Yes we have seperate checking accounts and have joint account.

Women control 90% of the money and 100% of the pussy, does it really matter?

Huh? Has nothing to do with monitoring spending and everything to do with preferential treatment you receive by having higher balance when you combine.
Yikes. There are some broke motherfrickers up in here

That was my point. The trust aspect of this is silly

My wife pays our utility and internet bills because when she first moved in she needed two bills in her name at our address to change her drivers license info. We have just never changed it from doing it that way

So why the trust aspect then?
