Your package left Memphis in one day? One?! You know the manager there or something?
Last USPS parcel I had go through Memphis was there three weeks. I input a missing mail search and never got a single notification on it. I finally filed a claim on it, it was finally found, and then delivered after they were going to have to cut a check.

I just had a problem with an Amazon delivery. I purchased an item on 6/21 and on 7/15 what arrived was not even close to what I ordered. I complained to the company and then to Amazon and still on 7/17 don't have my purchased order delivered.

Mailed a package to my son in Japan from here in Baton Rouge. It went to Charlotte, then to Chicago, then finally to Jacksonville, where it sat in Customs for 2 weeks. Arrived in Tokyo, then to my son in Nagoya, 6 hrs away. In one day.

Not to hijack the topic, but I recently filed a claim with USPS priority, where the initially lost a package sent to me, then after I request a "search", it was found and delivered, opened, and most of the contents missing. It had a "stamp" on it saying "Received Unsealed", though it was obviously sealed then opened (a Priority Mail box).
The contents were a bunch of law enforcement patches, sent as a gift by a friend. Replacement value is probably $200 or more, though some of the patches are irreplaceable. Priority Mail has a $100 limit, so I filed the claim for that amount. Denied. Appealed, was told to bring the box and letter from USPS to my local USPS for inspection. I did so, and though they were confused on what to do, they ultimately gave me a "receipt", which I presumed showed I complied with the requirement. Submitted that receipt. Denied. Appealed again. Denied. I only ever received the first denial letter, nothing for the following denials.
The FAQ says "If I did not appeal online, I can appeal (via mail) to the CONSUMER ADVOCATE - DOMESTIC CLAIMS APPEALS. I did file and appeal online, though I have no idea what to do next, apart from appealing via mail.
This has become a matter of principle. The USPS is undeniably at fault, but the claims/appeals process seems to be automatic, not actually reviewed by a human.
Do you have any advice?

Man if it had anything to do with going through Memphis you will be lucky to eventually get it at all.
I have had boxes that took three months to come in. Tracking shows that they tour the country and then when they end up in Memphis things just stop happening. I have had several eventually show up that had obviously been sitting out in the rain .

A few years ago I got what appeared to be a Christmas card addressed to someone in County Cork,Ireland ( I live in Grant Parish).
I put a post it note on it and wrote-Wrong Country and put it back in my mailbox.
About a month later it came back to me.I got so mad I drove to Colfax and asked for postmistress.
I showed her the card and gave it to her, there was nothing about the address that remotely resembled my address.
I told her if it came to my house a third time I was going to put it an envelope and send it to the Postmaster General.
She was pissed, swole up and clenching her teeth, never said a word to me.
She was of a certain demographic,I think she felt like I had disrespected her.

Sounds like you are doing the required steps in a claims process. Did the denial letter give you a reason for the denial? With the proof that the parcel was received opened and contents are missing (was that noted in your claim and/or appeal?) I’m wondering if proof of value is the issue.

It’s also a rookie move to send cards in their own envelope. They will get mutilated looking for gift cards and money. We had about 20 percent of our cards delivered until we switched envelopes.

It was documented the package was lost, then I filed a "Lost Mail Search". Some time after the "search", the package was found and delivered opened, with only 2 out of 25 patches enclosed, and the box was stamped "received unsealed". It was a priority mail box, which was sealed when sent at the post office where my friend lives (would certainly not be accepted unsealed!).
After I filed the claim, I received a letter telling me to bring to my local USPS for inspection. I did, and received a receipt, which I uploaded. That's when I got the first denial letter, saying I did not bring the package to USPS for inspection. Apparently, my local USPS did not do whatever they were supposed to do, I have no way of knowing.

I had a package go to somewhere in Texas, to Port Allan, to Covington, to Donaldsonville, then somewhere in Alabama, to Baton Rouge then to me before.
I have no idea how it went to Port Allan, then to all the other places before coming to me. I would like to know how their routes work as well.

When you appealed, did you let them know that the parcel was presented for inspection and that you were given a receipt?

Why don't they have better software to track their certified letters and packages? I understand basic mail with a stamp would be too much, but when people pay extra, you should know where it is at and shouldn't take some back and forth route across the US.

USPS they just hiked up the prices of a stamp from $.69 to $.74.

I agree 100%. Automation is the cause of most errors. Out of the 350+million mail pieces USPS processes daily, the majority of it will be processed on automated equipment until it reaches a delivery office. 10-15 years ago it was rare that I had a looping parcel or missing mail. We have become less efficient than when I began my career here.
The solution is above my pay grade. I do know the previous Postmaster General that Trump appointed came from the logistics industry, but the changes he put in place caused issues all across the nation.
The newly appointed PMG is a FedEx guy, so time will tell if we can see improvements in our logistics.

Actually, the first class rate went from .73 to .78 on July 13.

Yes, I explained that and uploaded the receipt.

I am not convinced that your local post office went into the computer and did the steps they are required to do.
