Next time you decide to do this buy yourself a 12 pack for the ride.

Lord help me Jesus
I’ve wasted it so
Help me Jesus
My soul’s in your hands

And now that I know
That I’ve needed you so
Help me Jesus
I know what I am

If I have a planned destination to be somewhere, I'm not going to waste time on back roads. If it is a weekend drive to nowhere special, we will take the back roads and check out Smallville, USA.

We’ve done a lot of traveling the past several years, mostly 6-8 hr. drives. Most routes are straight interstate, but our annual trip to Little Rock relies on back roads for more than half of the drive. It is by far the most enjoyable drive (even though it ends in Arkansas).

Can't beat windows down when it's 90+ degrees. I bet five hours of arse/back sweat was awesome.

I've taken pretty much every route from Atlanta to the Redneck Riviera (say, for these purposes, Gulf Shores to Cape San Blas/St George), and i can document little appreciable difference in time, average, trip to trip, among them.

It makes your drive so much more interesting than the boring, monotonous Interstate.

Until you come up on an 18 wheeler going 35.

Find any hidden gem restaurants on your way?

Not much to see between I-10 and Cape San Blas except pine trees no matter what route you take.

Yes actually...there was this hole in the wall place called Mom’s Kitchen in the tiny arse town of Preston, GA.

Some of the best chicken and biscuits I’ve ever had.

One of my recent interstate travels I was in park long enough to get out, open the rear of the car, get a can of Pringles out of a packed bag, return to drivers seat and consume 1/2 the can (including individually inspecting each chip for optimum seasoning tongue placement) before putting the car in drive again. The joys of interstate construction. *lesigh

It's hit or miss on our weekend cruises, but sometimes you can really find an outstanding meal in a place that looks like it was a garage at one time.

This is one of the things I like about my job, but I no longer get out of the office like I used to.

Sounds good on the surface but reality is the small rural towns are very corrupt law enforcement. My cousin was pulled over and had drugs planted on him. They extorted him and also made him lose his job.
