So which number corresponds to which data point? I know what 11, 12, and 14 are, but not the rest. And none of those are a surgical mask (which btw, there are plenty of types of those as well).

*a surgical mask is one that is secured with ties behind the head and neck, not to the ears.

It’s not just that. It breaks the large droplets up.

My office had a Covid scare so now we all have to wear masks in common areas (shaming is incouraged which is actually fun)

I was Thinking of switching to a gaiter for convenience but I have a mask with a N95 filter currently.

That doesn’t even make sense.

Read the article. It acts like a mesh and slices large droplets into smaller ones which can linger in the air instead of just falling to the ground.

I mean, I know they don't do shite. And that's what I wear when I have to wear a mask, but

On a phone so maybe the info is there but I haven’t been able to find it. Do they give any more info on the test gaiter other than “fleece?” I know they make fleece ones but no one is wearing those in august so hopefully they didn’t waste their time testing one. I think The three i own all have different materials. I’d like to know brand and material of the one they tested. I’d also be curious to see a follow up with various gaiter materials and companies.

You know what works better than a neck gaiter? Covering your fricking mouth when you cough or sneeze. And it works just as well as 99% of the masks out there.

Is it the style or the material? Because gaiters are very convenient - it seems like if you just made them from cotton/surgical mask material they’d work.

What about the reverse? If neck gaiters are so bad bc they slice big droplets into small ones, wouldn’t by that same logic they prevent large ones from coming into my mouth? Bc I don’t have COVID so WGAF how large or small my droplets are cut. Yall not getting COVID from my arse. I just don’t want all yall nasty shite coming into my mouth.

This study seems to prove my neck gaiter is just fine. And unlike an N95 it doesn’t make me look like a fricking nerd!!!

Fact is that CV was already declining when JBE did the mask mandate. It actually rose after EBRP Broome enacted a mask mandate

So it adds droplets?

FFS. What if breathing through fleece causes you to breath through your mouth more often and more forcefully?

But those saying it’s impossible... probably correct in y’all case. Come on man... get your cup of coffee and think about it.

The study proved that cotton masks are effective.

Science doesn't prove anything, by the by. It can only disprove something.

However, research like this does not show that masks actually reduce infections/transmissions, which is what we're concerned with.

This only shows that some masks help impede the PRESUMED MECHANISM of transmission, which is the issue that usually comes up with studies like this. It's why the WHO says there is "moderate" evidence that masks work, but with a lack of effectiveness of reducing influenza transmission. (This is from a document they published in October 2019, which I believe they've edited since this hysteria grew and grew. Originally, if I recall correctly, the quality of evidence for masks was "very low" and has since been upgraded to "moderate.")

How effective are cotton masks when worn all day? For multiple days without washing? How much leakage happens around the masks? How often do people touch their mask while wearing it?

I generally believe that masks help a bit (faith based, as the evidence isn't there as it makes logical sense), but the evidence is not supportive enough to mandate their use, make it criminal not to wear one, or make anyone feel morally superior, righteous, or virtuous for wearing one and/or shame someone for not wearing one.

At one point, humans were told that the world was flat. Some mouth breathers still subscribe to this belief. I'll put you in that camp.
