I'd bet a lot that you have driven over a 0.08% BAC before. I'd bet that 85% of people have at one point in their life driven over a 0.08% BAC. Some do it more than other. Some have a higher BAC than others. But if you're saying at any point in your life that you have never had 3 to 4 beers and never driven over 0.08% BAC, then you are a hypocrite.

In my early 20s, I probably drove with an above 0.08% BAC 100+ times. Then I got a DUI. But haven't in the last 6 years because I rarely drink anymore. I just couldn't handle the hangovers anymore.

The ever so common saying is just get an uber. It's only $15. Well in college, I didn't have 15 to 20 spare dollars to use. Now I do, but in college I had a tough time affording Uber or a taxi. It's ironic, the less money I had, the more I drank from stress of not having money. The more money I have, the less I drink because I'm not nearly as stressed about it as I was in college.

I would bet high dollar on what everyone here would call "DUI, DWI, Impared". I would think a lot of people would say "yes for sure you are right don't drink and drive" and still get behind the wheel thinking that applies to others but they are completely in charge of their surroundings and can drive without an issue after they have been drinking/smoking pot. Just thinking out loud.

I’m not a huge drinker to begin with, but I’ve definitely drank and drove in my life.

I can’t speak for everyone else, but I’m a more conservative/cautious driver when I’ve had a couple drinks, as I’m fully aware of the potential negative consequences. I don’t speed and try to avoid traffic and other cars.

I’m sure there are many people that cross a line where they shouldn’t be driving and drive recklessly, but generally speaking I don’t agree with the mindset that some people have that drinking &driving is an evil/awful/immoral thing.

Driving recklessly is the issue IMO, regardless if one is doing it drunk or sober. I’ve seen plenty of sober drivers that probably need their license suspended.

And MADD was a good idea, until, like a lot of other organizations that started out with noble intent, it became the Gestapo.

72 that drink and drive. 72 that gripe and complain about high auto insurance rates. 72 that could care less about the safety of others on the water or road.

All good points. Most small towns don’t even have uber. Hell, I couldn’t find an uber/taxi in Paducah ky at 9:30 on a Wednesday.

True. Have you ever seen someone on their phone driving the wrong way on an interstate?

I understand. But the real problem is how many times did they put lives in peril and not get caught. A person with like 3 of them probably should have 50 but just got very lucky…

Much more than 50. A person with 3 DUI’s has likely done it hundreds of times. When you’re dealing with someone who’s a bona fide alcoholic and hasn’t gone a day without drinking in decades, it’s easy to rack up those numbers.

In my younger days I have gotten behind the wheel when I probably shouldn't have a few times. I was lucky that I didn't crash ,and doing that was pretty stupid on my part. With the fines, legal shite you have to deal with, license suspension, higher insurance premiums, plus the possibility of a crash resulting in serious injury or death, it just isn't worth it. Take an Uber or Lyft, have a DD, call someone to get you, if you can stay over, if not sleep it off in the car.

The reason I haven't had an ounce of alcohol since 1999 is due to being the second vehicle on the scene of a head on accident rooted in the neglect of an individual that made a decision to drink and drive.
He took the lives of a wife, daughter, and granddaughter of a man...3 generations!
We heard the female voices screaming in agony while their truck was in flames. Shortly later the voices stopped. Dead.
This should never have happened. Anyone that makes the decision to get behind the wheel drunk should go to jail w/out question. Throw the book at them.

First DUI and a change of habits… I can’t judge you. We all did dumb stuff when we were young.

2 DUIs? Lifetime license ban and jail time.

3 or more? Prison. For life.
