bullshite! For 100k my fat arse is doing cartwheels down the entire parade route.

As for Mardi gras parades in general, I haven't been in many years. Most years I would take a trip instead (usually snow skiing). But this year no trip was planned and so I went to Endymion yesterday with my girlfriend and her extended family. We had an absolute freaking blast! I don't have young kids to worry about anymore. We had a place along the parade route to use the restroom and a place nearby to stay the night. I didn't have to drive or worry about anything. I'd definitely do that again and I see why people enjoy it.

If people have frick you money, let them spend it. It helps the economy, gives service people jobs at the parties, etc. You can’t spend your money when you are dead. Why would anyone complain about people dropping 50k to play dress up if it’s not hurting anyone.

Endymion pays for the cost of the King. And its done by a lottery system.

I’m not sure about Endymion but in the old line krewes Maid = down payment on a house and Queen = full cost of a house.

There is no cost. All they need is the appropriate dress. Many queens choose to upgrade food and band, but that varies.

If you think that’s expensive you should see what the queen of the DC Mardi Gras pays.

For Endymion, this year the Queen’s family spent about 75-80k

As for king, I’m not 100% sure on costs, but I believe it’s just your membership. It’s a lottery and if you’re picked, you’re king.

For Okeanos, Queen is picked from the maids. The cost for a maid is not bad. It’s basically your dues. The queen is picked randomly (from the cast of maids) at the ball. Of course you have your dress, etc, but my daughter was a lady in waiting before she lost interest in it all, and the cost difference between a little girl being a lady in waiting and the Queen is minimal.

For king, 25k check to be king. That doesn’t include the king’s party, favors, etc. expect to spend anywhere from 50-65k.

I was an active member of okeanos but not a rider. I am 100% sure of those costs. I am not sure the cost of being a king in Endymion, but I’m confident that’s the cost. 100% sure on the queen this year.

That’s a ridiculous amount of money. What does it normally cost for a guy to ride in one of these 2 parades?

I realize that everything in life is relative. I don't really consider myself privileged though. Mostly I feel sad for people who feel that:

a.) catching free plastic trinkets that other people are literally throwing away, or

b.) riding on a giant floating Applebee's filled with the people of Walmart, for a full week

... are some of the fondest memorable experiences in their lives.

Takes all kinds, I suppose.

You clowns do not know me at all and it is comical to see these responses.

I quit drinking 13 years ago.

I quit dipping about 10 years ago.

People invite me to parties all the time, but Im highly selective about the things that I do.

I can't stand Mardi Gras or New Orleans. I have zero desire to be within 100 miles of either. So, when I say I wouldn't be in a parade if they paid me 100k, I 100% mean that. I don't give a shite if you think otherwise Jennifer Lawrence. This is how I roll. I don't go along with the crowd or typically do what other people do. I don't care what anyone thinks. IDGAF, kick rocks.

So many sheeple out there.

People don’t acknowledge who Comus is.

Rex sure, but Comus kings are hush hush. Being Comus queen is like winning the New Orleans socialite lottery.

.......IDK, maybe because it is a message board on the internet and I felt like giving my opinion.

Why do you care what I think?

You know you didn't have to respond to my comment, you could have just moved on.......... sound familiar?

Worry about yourself.

Mardi Gras is more than vices. I have maybe 5 drinks a year. I’ve had a couple more to celebrate a young lady being queen, so 3 glasses of champagne between the coronation, Queen’s party, and extravaganza?

Mardi Gras when done right is fun. I’m old. I’m not going into the streets unless it’s the “locals Mardi Gras”, definitely not this week/weekend.

I get a balcony with food and a bathroom or grand stands with the same, and we enjoy it. Maybe it isn’t for you, and that’s cool, but don’t shite all over it.

For many people it’s drunken debauchery, but for others it’s a good way to spend time with family and friends.
