Wouldnt a NOTAM be issued through an easily verifiable source and not sketchy twitter sources?

Not that it is related to closed air space, NOLA designated SEAR 1 for Mardi Gras. Odd the New Years NOLA was not driven that designation.

At a press conference Monday (Feb. 2), city safety officials said the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has designated Mardi Gras as a Special Event Assessment Rating (SEAR) 1 event — the highest safety classification — and is sending more than 500 National Guard members and some equipment. That’s in addition to the roughly 1,000 state and local police officers already in place.

The cartel knows using these against the US would be a death sentence.

I was more thinking a last ditch response after an all out Us Assault on cartel operations. As to stingers. They came from Afghanistan where some moron left them.
The left will take no blame for this, and there won't be hell to pay the left will be demanding due process for the cartel.

So the FAA ordered a 10 day closure, causing airlines to cancel flights today, and then 8 hours later says oopsie?

WTF is going on at the FAA?

Pretty sure I would still change a flight landing in El Paso today.

That map looks like it would include Ciudad Juárez International Airport, 16 miles or so south of El Paso International and also pretty busy, about 2.5 million passengers a year. Between the 2 thats about 7 million.

Guess they meant 10 hour TFR, not 10 days

Did someone hit the wrong button or something?

This is absolutely bizarre. 10 day closure for a national security issue and then suddenly "all is well!" Yeah, okay.

I'm guessing the military backed down on testing the lasers...

Great time for me to be in El Paso.

Guess I’m gonna have to drive to Phoenix , Midland or Albuquerque and fly out

Carlsbad may have one daily commercial flight to DFW. Roswell certainly has many as does Hobbs. Carlsbad used to have, about 6 or so years ago. Also had flights to ABQ. I think that airline quit serving Carlsbad but another started doing so but not certain. Lot of oil field traffic in and out of that little airport.

Airline sources tell Reuters the El Paso flight grounding is linked to Pentagon counterdrone operations targeting Mexican cartel drones near the U.S.-Mexico border.

Do they need to test the lasers for 10 days? Could they not have planned this "laser test" in advance? Bring out the emergency laser test lol!

Been there a few times. It’s a relatively quiet and easy airport to go through. Doesn’t have any more security than a normal airport, at least in plain sight.

From 2014 - 2018 I flew out of El Paso a couple of times a month and it was, like most regional (I know its an international airport but it is more akin to a regional one) airports, a relatively pleasant experience. Easy parking, pretty simple security. Not a lot of restaurants and bars but more than enough and, most importantly, not impacted very often by weather. Pretty solid option for the area.
