For those who have left the classroom, what career did you shift to?
I own two businesses. Wife is still in education, though.

Mom was an educator back in the day - was quite good - Jefferson Parish. In came the union and she was gone within a handful of years...retired.

Many are on probation for sleeping with students.

Still in it. Career changer and in year 12. It’s rough. Constant battles with phones. 17 year olds in 9th grade classes.
Problem is the money is pretty good (100k) so it’s not a simple pivot. I have a sugar mama so I could switch but just not super motivated.

Corporate learning and development role.

Could you expand on this. How does one get into corporate learning and development?

I wonder what the top profession is for teachers who quit.

Considering the number of times I got whacked with a ruler by an angry nun, I don't think I was their pet.

I taught 36 years. The last 15 years were absolutely horrendous! I truly have PTSD. Bad dreams of out of control classrooms with no support. I have been retired for almost a year now. I want to work part time maybe in a better location? I probably will be a substitute at first to see how I respond back in the classroom and the situation. Now I just take each day slow and focus on healing my mental health and world view.

Wife taught for 6 years on the Westbank and in NOLA East. She's now a social worker.

Many teachers have done well moving into corp L and D. Internal training design and delivery or facilitation.
