Paging Mikelbr for early 90s LSU stories

That Northgate Ad made me nostalgic.

Hurricane Andrew 1992. I'm a senior in HS and cruising around BR. Most power is out in the city and hardly anyone had generators like now.
We pull up to Northgate Liquor and there's a line out the door. They couldn't keep booze cold and were selling it all for dirt cheap. We got a Case of Schlitz Blue Bull Malt Liquor 40oz for $5.

Yep- I may a detail fuzzy. Basically, Kevin had talked the manager into letting this new band play one night. I guess sight unseen- maybe he had played a demo tape for him. When the time came Kevin got up on stage and they played. Luckily it all worked out for everyone. I just happened to be there that night- the only reason I remember I was there was the name. They did good choosing a memorable name for the band. I didn't know the guys back then (and don't pretend to be close friends now) but I will say they have definitely improved over the years.

i grew up with joel from 4th grade at Jack Hayes until we graduated in 1984 at OPHS.

we had an end-of-school party in 8th grade and he brought a B-52s record (before anyone had heard of the band..this was like 1979) and we were rocking out to 'rock lobster' and it kind-of blew my mind.

looking back its hard to believe rock lobster came out in 1979. wow.

One of the worst Songs of all time(hit songs).

1994 got in a big ole fight outside the Bengal with some Central HS(drinking age was 18) dudes after the Kentucky game in the middle of Highland Road. Our dumb asses were rumbling around all over the place with one little skirmish ending up behind the convenience store next door.
BRPD had trouble figuring out who the hell was STILL fighting when they pulled up from across the street.

Made for a good show for the people stuck in traffic.
Oh and we actually won that game.

People still don't realize that the prices have gone down and service up since new ownership in 14.

Tuesday night's $5 burgers/fries and $2 domestic draft is LEGIT.

And Fireball shots are always $2 erryday.

People forget what a really good newspaper The Daily Reveille was back in those days. Consistently won Best College Newspaper nationally and the Manship School was the pinnacle of journalism. What the hell happened?

I'm a moderate BTE fan, seeing them mabye 5 times in 20 years.

Who would agree that their free concert at Bon Fete in 98(?) was their best ever?
I know it was free but it was a Sunday night in a big downtown parking lot. Easily 5k people there.
