B&S is up there with Cummins from reviews I have seen
My B&S 20KW just crossed 780hrs today, I did open the housing on it today and put a fan on it to move some air but it has run great for non stop for multiple days in the 2 years we have owned the home.

I assumed that because it has been serviced for 5 years without me giving them a key but I don’t know anyone with one. I appreciate the reply though. This thing could run 7 days without an oil change. ??

I have a Generac 22KW. Been running since Sunday night. It was 2 months old attached to a home we bought as a tear down. Had it removed and had a maintenance service company put it in storage until my house was built, then reinstalled it. For the past 5 years, I’ve had maintenance performed by this service company 2x a year. It also runs a weekly test for 10 minutes. Shame on me for not bothering with it before now, but wanted to see what it took to change the oil the other day and realize I don’t have a key to remove the enclosure. So I called the service company and got on their list to service it. I have no idea when that will be. The problem is I’m not home until Sunday. I pray they come soon to check on it and change the oil. I suspect it will crash before then. The load is a few ACs set at 77 and 80 deg and 3 refrigerator/freezers. Nothing else worth mentioning. I have switches that do not allow it to get overloaded. Am I screwed?
Man after laura, my neighbors ran non stop for 7 days before we went and changed oil fire him.
It's a crapshoot.

LSU777, what do you think about the poster asking about drying his laundry with his generator? Go help him out with some advice.

I don’t do laundry or use the microwave when it is running. My oven and stove are gas. Barely, if any, lights are on. I try my best to keep the load as low as possible.

How much does a maintenance contact usually cost for a generator?
Posted on 9/2/21 at 10:12 pm to Kramer26
I think around $400/yr. I think it is worth it. My next service visit will include me getting a key and a couple of DIY kits

That looks like the exhaust pipe glowing, not the generator

Skipping to the end to mention that I’m on day 4 of a 5 year old Generac 22KW right now in New Orleans. Running a 5-ton AC all day long with little regard for lights or anything else. Pizza in the oven for lunch, etc. Very fortunate.
Checked oil day 2, following the shutdown procedure. Oil level good. Looked as clean as the day it went in. Will change the oil at 1 week, a little under the recommended 200 hrs.
So far so good, and right now wouldn’t trade it. Like anything else, it has its detractors.

I don’t think they suck as much as people ask too much of them
I guess it's wrong to expect they run for what the manual says they can run.

I’ve had mine for 5 years and have never had an issue. It’s about keeping it maintained and understanding what it can and cant do.
Yea, what part of oil and load not an issued do you not understand?
Oil was changed way earlier than recommended, load way under recommended limits. All power was tuned off and generator allowed to cool off early in the mornings.
Expecting Generac to work more than 2 days is like expecting McDonald's ice cream machines to work every now and then.

I’ve posted this on a couple other generator threads, the people around my community that have Generacs that are 4-5 plus years old have had good luck with them.People that put them in last couple years tend to have them fail fairly rapidly.
Interesting, Hers is 2.5 years old.

your genset might just be crap, dude.
it happens, especially on the low price range end of machinery/electronics

Damn my mother in law has had my dryer and microwave running damn all day long for the past 4 days. No issues with my 22kw generac

Honestly, this is all a mistake. Generators like a load (load banks are added to generators to make them work in industrial settings), they do not like quickly fluctuating temperatures, and changing oil early isn't necessary. Yes, I deal quite a lot with industrial generators.

I just ran mine for 72hrs straight. Added 1/8 qt of oil after I got power back

My generac (22kw), ran 54 hrs with two running ac units with zero issues. I’m changing oil, filter, air filters this weekend.

You have a drill?
I'd drill that sumbitch out. Replace it later if you want. Those locks are not that tough.

Friend in NOLA area had a rep come look at the new crapped out Generac and generator end crapped out more than the rotor
