BRPD was just rerouting traffic from Government down Marquette during OLOM School carpool. Complete cluster!

Fair. However, I think they're referring to people who default to Government when they want to go downtown or something like that. Of course if you're going somewhere on Government, you would take it.

If you're coming from my side of town and not taking the interstate for whatever reason, you come out way ahead taking either Acadian, or Perkins over the overpass, and passing up Govt to take North Blvd all the way to downtown. A LOT of people don't pass up Govt in that situation. They take a left and then complain about the traffic.

When I lived in the area, all my options to get downtown either meant going down Government or crossing Government in order to reach North Blvd or Florida, traffic permitting.

If I lived elsewhere in town and was trying to get to downtown, if I was going on Government it was typically because the interstate was fricked and there weren't many additional options because of the obvious infrastructure issues in BR.

In short, fixing Government would have been done through one of a couple of things, such as either fixing shitty non-traffic conditions in town to cut down on people living in Livingston or the eastern part of EBR OR fixing various other traffic arteries that did what people wanted to do.

Constricting Government to two and a half lanes was fricking stupid, especially since the "Use North Blvd" excuse doesn't account for the fact that you still have to get to Foster at the least in order to do so because the goddamn community college is there blocking the way from Rebel Dr to Foster.

Correct. I went to the cpex meetings. They promised bus pull offs they promised bike lanes they promised the moon. And what do they do? deliver nothing but traffic, medians that will crumble, plants that will die and headaches for taxpayers.

Crossing Government is very easy, though. I think that's what they mean. It is super easy to cross to get to parallel streets where you can flow with no traffic.

I take Perkins > Park (hop over Government) > left on North to get to work every day.

FWIW, I have no preference as to what they did or didn't do with Government. Just that a lot of Government's traffic seems to be clogged with people don't know how easy it is to hop on/hop off as needed.

Personally I think it would have been nice if they could have shifted all lanes outwards and put a middle lane in that way. But IDK if that was an issue for building too close to the road or what.

We can’t pass decent election laws because getting a frickin ID is too big a burden. Ain’t no way they make getting a license harder.

Bitch, North Blvd should have cut through what is now BRCC if that was going to be the plan.

Florida St goes all the way to Hammond but you be you.

If I'm coming from south of Government, Florida doesn't do me a damn bit of good trying to reach North Blvd, unless I feel like making several U-turns and going through BRCC.

One big traffic jam now.

As far as I can see, all it did was provide a turning lane for those roads that were no left turn on like Acadian. Complete nonsense. As is tradition.

Use North Blvd.

Or Florida.

North Blvd ends at N foster, so I guess it serves you to there, but the only answer after that is Florida. AKA, the only road from west to east in the city. Well, I guess there’s Choctaw, but that isn’t much of a viable alternative.

I drive on Government all the time, and I can pretty confidently say that the average day now is better than the average day before construction started. And construction isn't over.

It's like people have somehow already forgotten how bad traffic used to be on government before the "road diet" was even dreamed up.

There was a thread a while back about this and I was told that it was great. I lived in that area and used Government daily about 8 years ago and traffic wasn't as bad as it was the last few few times I was down Government the past few months.

I agree with this, the only bad part really is Acadian/Government intersection heading away from downtown.

At least they finally put a turning lane at the Community College Dr. intersection

There is no reason to use Government street as a thru street. Only use it if you live off of it or are visiting a business on it.
