Bringing kids to the good neighborhood isn't exactly new. Back in the 70's my old man would sit on the porch of his mother-in-laws house with a sheet over him like a ghost. If it was one of the neighborhood kids (I.e. white) he would let them take candy from the bucket and stay perfectly still. If it was a out of the neighborhood kid (I.e. black) he would jump and scare the beejeezus out of them before they had a chance to get candy. He said their mommas would often run and leave their kids in the dust.

I finally understand what “white privilege” means.

Kids don't have to use much imagination for their costumes anymore. Now you just take them to the store and it's all ready for you in a bag. I always remember having to be creative with at least part if not all of your costume.

You fail to recognize the many dangers children may be subjected to while Trick or Treating that my generation did not have to worry about.
All to provide a huge profit for candy and coztume manufacturers.
Not worth the risk IMHO.
BTW you can have Valentines day and the dozens of other useless "Holidays" perpetrated and perpetually promoted for the profit of the candy, greeting card and restaurant industries!

If you could trust people, it wouldn't be an issue.

I can’t understand how “authorities” expect kids to ToT when the hours are 5:30-7:00
What parent has time to get home and take their kid?

People busing their kids into good neighborhoods ruined it.
Forced busing ruined Halloween in East Baton Rouge Parish.

Yea all this trunk or treat shite is lame. It makes me sad that not many kids come trick or treating on halloween.

We are robbing our children of one of the most special times of being a child. There's nothing like trick or treating on Halloween night. Seeing mobs of kids all walking the dark streets at the same time, having nearly all houses in all neighborhoods with their lights on inviting trick or treaters, and being able to look forward to that night every year without having to ask "what night are we allowed to trick or treat this year?"
I blame the most selfish generation in history, gen-x, who has to have everything on their terms. It wasn't until more a few gen-x couples moved into my parent's neighbor became an "only trick treat on the Saturday before" neighborhood.

I do my house up for Halloween. Ghouls, tombstones, large bats with red LED eyes, flaming torches, skulls, bones, fog, house lit in spooky orange, deep purple for the trees, screams, chains rattling and creepy moaning. Windows are all lit in red. Little kids have to escorted up my walk by their parents because it's too creepy and scary. Some parents just walk on by because the kids are too scared. That's exactly how I like it.
Me too!! I like when the parents push the kid up the driveway even though it's clear the kid is scared. Growing up in BR we had block parties on halloween weekend and almost everybody on our street decorated. And people would even turn their garages into a "haunted house". People would jump out bushes and scare beejezus out of us. It was so awesome. All the adults would be drinking and wearing costumes too.

Not in my neighborhood baw. The fact that my soon to be 5 year old loves Halloween as much as Christmas morning makes me smile. Little dude has been asking how long until Tuesday since mid august.
