5 Guys has always been roughly double the cost of most fast food places.. but their quality is higher, and i dont mind waiting since they dont start cooking it until you order.. HOWEVER I recently went to the location near me and i ordered a burger (no cheese or bacon add on) , small cajun fry and no drink.. total with tax came out to just over $18…. I wont be back anytime soon, if ever, since that’s just out of whack IMO for what I’m getting .. not saying i dont understand inflation, it’s just not that great of a meal at that price.

No one is exempt from inflation but those prices are just ludicrous for a fast food joint. I can go to Burger King and get 2 double whopper meals for that price.
This is a spin off from another post I made about Entergy. Some large fast food restaurants like McDonalds own or manage their supply chain down to the farms themselves so they can manage the wholesale cost themselves.
That was my point about Entergy. If they need large amounts of natural gas, why not start drilling for it or contracting a 3rd party to drill just for them and any excess is sold off. The only problem is risk, but as one poster put it, Entergy is happy to pass any wholesale cost increase to the rate payers so why try to reign in the costs.
Five Guys is still growing and is dependent on wholesalers as they grow and have less leverage when trying to negotiate cost.
If I recall correctly, a company that was good for negotiating commodities was Southwest Airlines in the mid 2000’s when oil prices first spiked, they managed to have long term contracts that locked in lower fuel costs. So while other airlines were fuming about sky high aviation fuel, their costs remained reasonable.

The one is West Monroe closed up.
Their burgers were good but their fries weren't.
Burger Grind and Cheniere Shack have better burgers.

5 guys is also slow as hell for a place that only does fries, shakes, and burgers.
I DoorDash on the side and I have had this exact thought many times. Someone has to leave a damn good tip for me to accept a Five Guys order.

I get that.. on one hand, it’s an apples and airplanes comparison, since those places arent national chains like 5 Guys.. on the other hand though, when you can get a delicious gourmet, cooked-to-order burger from a local mom and pop place for LESS than the price of a national corporate burger at 5 Guys- then that isnt sustainable IMO for a fast food place .

Yep. Went a few weeks ago, regular burger combo was 18 bucks. Vowed to never go back.

5 guys has always been overpriced. The last time I went to one, which has been awhile ago, when they gave me the total for my order I told them I just wanted a hamburger, I didn't want to purchase the store. It's just not worth the price to me

There is one just a few blocks from us in Missoula, and I've been there maybe three times. I can go to a pub for cheaper.
Although I learned a trick if you want to carb load: go just before they close and they'll give you a giant bag of fries. Well that happened once.

Five guys is not what I consider fast food, and sounds like you got a double cheeseburger, and they have always been expensive, I am just glad that they post the prices so you can decide if you want to spend that much before you order

Their grocery bill went up just like yours did

Must be the location. I went to Five Guys off of Corporate in BR last week, $20 for 2 burgers and a large order of fries

Yeah, it is nuts. I avoid CFA now because I hate waiting in long drive thru lines, and if I'm spending $60 to feed the family, it shouldn't be "fast food."
One of my kids love burgers, and if we have 1:1 time, that's what we do. Five Guys, Burger Fi, Shake Shack, etc etc... it is $30-40 for 2 people to eat.

I was close to a deadline at work before Christmas and needed to stay in for lunch. I got on door dash and started my order 1 double burger, Small Cajun fry and a medium drink. Total around $30 with fees and the like. I canceled the order and hit a drive thru for $10.
My sons love the place but we rarely go, We can go to a steak house and eat for $10-15 more then it cost us to go to 5 guys.

Yep $17 for burger, drink and fries. Had I realized that beforehand, I wouldn’t have gone there.

Taking a trip to the States in June/July, bringing 3 Finns with me. I keep bragging about how much cheaper shite is in the States and now I'm gonna look like a bullshitter thanks to Brandon.

Never fails when you order online at 5 guys.. you get there at your required time. THEN they cook your fries so you’re waiting 10 more minutes past the time it said your order would be ready
Pisses me off.
Pisses me off.

It's never been cheap. When the first one came to my town I went there and ended up spending 17 bucks. (5 years ago) Never been back. Plus they don't have pickled jalapenos, only fresh. Trash burger joint.
