You can structure the home school however best fits your schedule. Nothing says you have to be "in school" at 9am on monday. You can school them on saturdays or in the evenings . Allocate 2-4 hours per day depending on the age of the children. Often multiple children will be going through similar subjects, so there is overlap. You can choose to go year round at 3-4 days per week if that is a better fit for you.

Don’t deprive your kids of a normal childhood. Homeschool kids are fricking weird, the world has enough weirdos already

If a homeschool kid is “weird” in your opinion then it’s probably bc the parents are “weird” also which probably means if the same kid would’ve gone to regular school then the kid would still have been “weird”.

Missing out on normal social situations makes a lot of homeschool kids weird.

I used to hold this opinion but the quality of education has been on a steady decline in recent years. I can't imagine where it will be in another 5 or 10 years. Plan accordingly

Up until recently my wife (no pics) and I had the opinion that, “We went to public school and turned out just fine.” Now I am ready to homeschool my kids (3 boys). I work 24hrs on/48 hrs off(firefighter) and wife works 4–10 hr days(nurse). Is this doable and if so how? Wife thinks it can’t be done.

Disclaimer: I’ve always been somewhat “anti homeschool” bc those kids always turned out weird but i feel we can combat that with our current social life.

Don't do it. They will end up like me.

I don’t know if they are available in BR, but homeschool hybrids are popping up all over. 2-3 days in class with other students and a teacher, and 2-3 days at home learning.

It is doable- advertise for private tutors at your nearest university or contact the school district (some have lists of tutor referrals). Decide which subjects are important enough to hire an instructor. Think about what you and your wife can teach yourself. You can often teach history through a mix of travel and literature.

We homeschool our kids - after a few years of private school education - we decided to homeschool. We live in BR - there are plenty of options for hybrid or doing it all on your own.

You have to make the commitment though, and it will be tough. Bc you are in charge of everything. The kids will have to adjust, too.

My smaller kids only do about 2 hours of work a day - but we do twice as much as regular school. But I have to keep them quiet while my high school kids finish up.

If you live in the Baton Rouge Metro area check out the FLEX School at Parkview- it is a new program that allows kids to move at their own pace much like home school, with supervision- teachers available but a much more relaxed atmosphere than their private school.

The school is held in the former Laser Tag building off of Sherwood Forest- They left a lot of the original Laser tag designs and it gives the Flex School a real wow factor for the kids

Tuition is way less than the private school. Kids have flex schedules tailored to them.

Very doable!

Don't listen to the idiots about socialization. Join CHEF. Lots of co-op options.

Not a fan of u academy. It's just public school curriculum online.

Why homeschool? Is this racism or trumpism? Actually they are the same thing

University View Academy has an excellent virtual school. Couple that with at-home instruction and you’ll provide a good education.

This is a excellent program, a friends kid graduated from it , I went to the graduation ceremony, it was unbelievable the amount of college scholarship s these kids had been awarded. Several were accepted to Ivy League schools, my friends kid got a full ride to Tulane.

We've got a shitload of high school kids missing out on the social situations as it is because of the rona. Homeschool seems like a much better option than public school indoctrination via Zoom
