I've handled a few insurance claims involving the high end ones and was in shock when I saw the tax returns. Very profitable business

Local car wash here that opened maybe two years ago just sold for over a million. Don't think it cost that much to build.

Something like Bennys is $4m to build

For real? How?

Advanced controls systems and compressed air dryers. I saw the electronics cabinet of one once. Allen Bradley controls. I'm sure the program for every car wash is generic but you gotta pay a controls guy to build it and test it out.

Car washes are actually one of the few easy entry businesses that are extremely profitable.

Are you kidding? The profit margin on those is probably pretty nice once you have it built.

I have the subscription at Geaux clean, $15/month.
When I was driving more I’d wash it 3-5 times a week. Now it’s more like once every other week.

I saw a Tiktock of a lady who owned one. She pulled in like $5k in two weeks. If the place cost like $200k, she’s doing pretty good.

Anyone have any idea what their profit margins are?

A guy who used to work for me owns several car washes. The margins are really high in his car washes the non-labor costs are less than $1 per wash all in. Add in about 3 people making minimum wage and his break even is around 5 cars an hour. Most days (non rainy days) he averages about 15 cars an hour.

So yeah there’s money there.

I paid like $15 to drive through Benny's last Friday and it took like 3 minutes. I suspect their profit margin was pretty decent on that.

We have one here in Ponchatoula (so fancy) that's $15 each time or $20 a month unlimited. I went with unlimited and go through it on the way home from picking up my son from daycare. It has multi colored lights and he gets a kick out of it.

I'd imagine the quarter spray and wash places have such a low overhead that they're basically just passive incomes for the owners.

I used to work with someone who tried to open one and failed miserably. 100% leveraged loan and let the bank take it. It was a terrible location they where sold on, and the last time I talked to them the reason it failed was..."it rains too much in Lafayette." That doesn't seem to phase Classic Auto Spa. I think Sassy Suds out of Crowley bought the location from the bank and started gutting the place of all the useless equipment they didn't really need. Car Washes are not guaranteed money makers...but the margins are nice if you don't frick the dog.

Their raw materials costs aren't really high. And a decent operation can handle a car every few minutes.

Honestly the hardest part is probably finding the right location and keeping the right employees on board.

If you buy the monthly unlimited plan, how do they tell if you are paid up? Do they put a different sticker on your car every month.

I pay $40 a month for the super premium wash...I have a sticker with a bar code and my credit card is automatically charged each month

about to say the same thing. This dude's paint must be horrible!

My truck is ceramic coated so no car washes for me. I clean my ride in the drive way.
