At 10:30 last night lightning struck something VERY close to my house. I would say it is the closest I have ever been to one. I’m anxious to go see what it hit when day breaks.
About two years ago I watched lightning strike the road my house sits on, right near where my driveway intersects with it. Obviously we heard the loud arse crack of thunder but there was also a distinct pop/click sound inside the house. I was certain the house got hit also but I found no damage whatsoever. Our router and security camera DVR were fried though.

Still going in LP. Power out since 10:30 and Entergy dgaf as always. Not a truck in sight.
Yo have Enterty in LP? I thought LP was almost exclusively Demco.

I got up and checked all electrical equipment in the house and it all appears to be working. Looking out the window it looks like a big pine got struck in the neighbor’s yard. I’m not crazy about going outside just yet, it is still raining and I’m recovering from knee replacement.

Depends on the area. Had Demco at my old house but Entergy at the current.

Don’t go out there then. No sense in setting your recovery backwards, let your neighbor deal with it
.
You were made for this weather. I suggest you sit your old arse down on your porch all day and watch the rain.

Rain gauge shows a little more than 6.5” last night/this morning. It was pouring hard for a good bit last night.

I was treated to the noise of my phone going off at midnight telling me not to travel.
Yeah thanks for that

Weather was worse than 90% of the “severe weather” threads that are started here
I’ve actually noticed over the last 10 years that is the trend. Worse weather I can remember was around 2015 and not a peep here or anywhere else leading up to it.

whacked in HOU
You know you're poor in Houston when you use the airport code for Hobby, not the real airport.
Egg sized hail never materialized. Moderate rain once or twice. The closest lightning got was 7 miles away. Nothing close to whacked.

It doesn't look like NWS New Orleans issued a single severe thunderstorm warning. They issued several flash flood warnings, but rain doesn't equal severe weather. A severe thunderstorm warning requires the possibility of at least 58mph wind and/or hail 1" or larger in size. There are no storm reports (tornado, wind, hail) from SE Lousiana from yesterday/last night, either.
If you have a report you can make it here:
