Usually over 300k. I enjoy working on cars so I don't mind the maintenance or repairs.

My wife had an '04 trailblazer with 225k on it and the transmission went out. I told her "time for a new car". She said "no, I really like my trailblazer".

I put in a new transmission, brand new carpet, new leather seats and replaced everything that might fail in the next 100k miles. I think the cost was $5500 total for all that work.

The vehicle was like brand new and she drove it another 100k miles.

Usually until it is hardly worth anything but a couple of thousand bucks. I’ll mint in the hell out of it though. 15 years plus usually…

Working on a pb. 8 years old this month. ‘18 GMC hd. 203k miles. Best vehicle I have ever owned. Plan to drive it as long as the mechanics hold up. Historically, I’ve replaced about every 6-7 years.

First truck was an’85. I inherited it, traded it in, in ‘97 for a ‘95.
Bought a new truck in 2005 and kept it until 2017. It needed a few thousand in repairs so I got a new one in ‘17.
Gonna try to make my 2017 last for another 4 year, but I’m not sure that’ll happen. Already had to replace the transmission. But that’s got a 3 year warranty, so I’ll probably keep it at least 2-3 more years.

Up here the salt and calcium chloride they dump on the roads in the winter means the body rots to the point of structural instability before the rest of the mechanical systems wear out. Wife’s car is 12 years old, mine is 10. They’re both showing signs of rust.

15 years is about the limit unless you REALLY stay on top of washing the underside of the vehicle.

My current pickup is an 06 I bought in October of 05 and I'll die with that truck if nothing disastrous happens to it. I'm now 73 and the truck only has 75K on it.

My last truck was a 95 Ford Ranger with the 4 cylinder engine and 5 speed standard transmission and I'd likely still have it if it didn't get flooded when Katrina hit. It only had 50K on it at 10 years old and looked damn near brand new condition wise.

Before that I had a 75 Ford Ranchero that I kept for 20 years and had 160K on it when I gave it to a good friend of mine after I bought the Ranger.

I'll usually drive them until they fall apart. I put a lot of miles on them, though. I'm hoping i can drive my current truck to 250-300k. That'll put me at 10-12 years with it. Since my current commute goes through BR I'd rather not break down on 110 and end up in a black hawk down situation.

plus I can't stand all the bells and whistles they put in newer vehicles.

Some of this I agree with, but some I have come to appreciate in other people's vehicles.

Mostly the safety stuff, blind spot indicators, big rear view cameras, collision avoidance, lane keeping, highway driving assist.

Takes so much stress off me and safe is sexy to me.

Then there's one I really like, heated and ventilated seats. Next level stuff.

The rest is langiappe.

10 for both wife and I.
Currently in an 17 and getting the occasional itch to get new but no sense wasting $. Wife replaced her 13 in late 24 (2025 model).

Plan was to give old 13 then 17 to teen drivers starting in a year. Now I'm strongly considering something newer for them with all the latest safety and warning features. Likely have them start in the old models to learn without all the assistance then move them into something safer as they have driving fundamentals down and progress beyond driving within few mile radius of home and no highways.
Always held view kids should have a beater to start but now with advent of more safety features to intervene and prevent minimize damage I am shifting my mindset. Dont want to spoil them but cant imagine the anguish if something happened and I could have spent $ to prevent it. Yet dont want to set their bar too high where they squander their $ all their lives buying nicer vehicles than they can really afford.

8 or so years.

The technology advancements in the that period are immense. I’ve been pleased with the decision.

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee: 2006-2014, 160,000 miles. Should have kept it, but I wanted a truck.
2013 F-150: 2014-2021, 81,000 miles. I wanted to keep it longer, but something in the A/C broke every year, so I got rid of it when the warranty ran out.
2017 Jeep Wrangler: 2021 - ? 93,000 miles currently: As of right now, Daughter will get it in 2028 for her senior year.

Wife
2008 Cadillac Escalade: 2010-2021, 120,000 miles. It needed about $2k in work and I was tired of getting 12mpg in town
2018 VW Atlas: 2021 - ? 81,000 miles currently. I hope to put 150-200k miles on it.

Drove my last one to 250k and the engine died. Bought a demo mid-size SUV. I just dont get the expensive vehicle craze. So many other things to spend money on.

Still driving it and wouldn't want to drive anything else. 208,000 miles
