Until they start costing money to keep them functional.

Business owner, we take advantage of the 5 year fixed asset life cycle. We also own anywhere between 25-30 big rigs so our lease agent is always trying to get me into some wild low mileage lease. Lambos, Ferraris, McLarens, RR’s, etc when she calls and says we have a koenigsegg you’ll see that sumbitch hauling between LC and Laffy. License plate with be “OTBUTLER”

2006 Toyota, 203,000 miles.
2009 Toyota Tacoma 209,000 miles
2019 Toyota Tacoma 55,000 miles
I then wanted a newer Tacoma, Power Seats, Apple Car Play and a few other options. Called my friend that owns the dealership.
2021 Toyota Tacoma now has 148,000 miles. Just put my second set of tires on it.
I went in swiped my credit card, less than $6,000, drove off.

Can’t buy these and claim any tax benefit. Have to lease.

I had 2016 truck with 230,000 miles on it. My son turned 16 so I gave it him.
My wife drove her vehicle for over 12 years before we got her a new one.

The shortest I have kept a vehicle was about 4 years. Resto-modded an 80 CJ-7 in the early 90s, got married and sold it a buddy.
Longest was 17 yrs. 2000 TJ we bought new that got totaled at about 185000 miles.
Currently at 8+ years on a 2013 F150 and a 2015 JK Unlimited. Both bought used with around 50k miles, both now have 152k.
Hope to keep both for many more years.

I keep them until the wheels fall off (figuratively).
I bought an 04 Tundra with 6k miles on it. Still have it. I inherited an 01 Camry with 60k on it in 2016. Still have it too. The wife has a newer and nicer car, but I'm quite happy with what I have.

I’ve bought 2 vehicles in 31 years.
I kept a 95 Ranger for 12 years, and the plastic parts started to get brittle. Unfortunately the plastic included things like the ignition module.
Have had an 07 Tundra since new.

I'm driving a 2012 FX4 that I bought in 2014. I may start looking soon, but really only because I'll be retiring in the next 3 years, so I'm thinking I'd like to get something before I'm retired or die

3 years and trade up to a new model Usually costs round 12K so 4k a year to always drive something new. Still better than leasing and paying up front plus the 350 a month.

400-500k miles or longer, have only had 2 vehicles since 1993, bought 1992 F150 in 93 with 7k miles on it, inline 6, still have it with 385k miles on it, bought an 2006 F150 Lariat super crew in 2012 with 67k miles and drive it to/from work weekly with 269k miles on it. I maintain and work on my own vehicles and dread the day I have to get my retirement truck to tow our camper and travel the USA.

15 Silverado. 160 k. Just changed the transmission. Hope to get another 150k.
My son received a 2014 GMC Sierra hand-me-down last year with around 120k miles. Had the transmission replaced just last week. Apparently it's very common for that model Sierras / Silverados to have the transmission go out around 100k miles.
Hoping it will get him through college.
