I'm 34. I was having GI issues so they did a colonoscopy to rule some things out. I had 6 precancerous polyps. They said if I had waited until 50 like most people I probably would have lost sections of my colon.
Congratulations on not having a colonoscopy, yet.

I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in December 2018 at the age of 53. I had not had one yet. My doctor said insurance pays for people to get one at 50 but studies now recommend getting one at 40. I wish I would have gotten one at 50. Please don't put it off.

Talk to your doctor for his opinion but I would say 50 is a good starting age
50 without a family history, 45 for African Americans
Then every 10 years after that
If you have a sibling or parent who has been dx with colon cancer, recommend 10 years before the age at diagnosis of the youngest relative or at age 40 years, whichever comes first.
All of this comes from the colorectal cancer screening guidlines for average-risk individuals from the US Multi-Society Task Force on Colorectal Cancer (2017)

I’m 38, and I absolutely plan to get one at age 40.
I’ve seen too many recent cases of individuals in their 40’s (and early 40’s) with no history being diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer.
3+ decades of suboptimal diet/nutrition, food ingredients, preservatives, and additives, etc... who knows what that’s really doing in our intestinal tracts (myself included).
It’s not a gamble I’m willing to take. 40 for me.

Same here. PSA every year and... the other way as well. So far, so good.
Good. There is really no reason whatsoever for every male over 40 not to get tested. It is so easy.

Can't you put some poop in a box and mail it in and they check you that way?

I don’t mind them. Prep sucks but I shite all the time anyway. And it’s a nice little nap.

My mom died of colon cancer at 42. Diagnosed only 8 months prior.
I’m 26 so I’ll get one before 30.

Depends on if they found anything the first time. It's every three years for me because they found two precancerous polyps. Some folks have to go back every 6 months. It just depends on the outcome.
