Had my first at 55.
Blood test followed by my second found cancer at 64. Was an aggressive tumor but it was only interested in my colon. Surgery to remove the transverse section of my colon and related lymph nodes. Nodes came back negative so no further treatment required. At one year I had another colonoscopy and they removed 7 polyps that showed no active cancer but were pre-cancerous which keeps me on a one year cycle with colonoscopy. CT scans were clear and they are also cycled at one year.
If your insurance will cover it or you can afford it have it done sooner than later, plus yearly physical is a must. The blood work from physical was the first cancer marker that showed up as low red cell count.
Just my two cents the procedure is a snap no pain mostly asleep.

I’m 29 and got my first one in August...was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer
My oncologist said one of the main things they’re researching right now is the rise in colon cancer in young adults like ages 20-40
So, doesn’t hurt getting checked out if you ask the guy getting chemo on his 30th bday

It is a snap. Prep can be a bit tedious if the effects haven't subsided by the time of the procedure. Last month was my third or fourth time and I was a bit queasy for the afternoon of the scope. But the best part of the colonoscopy is the anesthetist telling you they are starting the propofol and then the next thing is someone is shaking you to wake up. Then you go out and eat a shrimp poboy.
Doc told me this time I'm clean and to come back in ten years.

I watched some vegetarian documentary the other day that basically showed that areas of the world that relied primarily on fruits and veggies rarely had instances of colon cancer. This was like a 30 years study in different areas of China and then some research in Norway. Diet seems to be incredibly important much more than we realize. I do love bacon tho it makes greens taste better :). Best of luck to you and eat your greens

Those areas are also poor and small bodies. I like football too much.

THIS. I am the poster boy for what rd280z has said.
I went for a checkup at age 50. No symptoms of anything. They found a tumor in my descending colon. They did a biopsy while they were in there and it turned out to be malignant. They did surgery on me 2 weeks later - removed the tumor and 12 inches of the colon. It was Stage 2. They said there was no way to tell how long it had been there, but if I had waited until symptoms had presented themselves, it could very will have been too late. I didn't have to have chemo, radiation, etc. because the tumor was contained within the colon wall and all lymph nodes tested were clear.
That was 7 years ago this past summer. I've had several follow up scopes since then and I'm still cancer free. I was fortunate that I decided to get a checkup at age 50. Don't wait for symptoms. The prep is a pain...but get regular colon screenings beginning at age 50! It's totally worth it! I'm living proof.
