I never understood why a wife wouldn't also work after children, until I saw how much the daycare bills were. It would legit be better for us if my wife stayed home, but unfortunately her insurances are all much better and cheaper than my employer offers. Thank God I only have another 7 months of it though.

I’ll say the obvious part out loud. Women should stay home and raise children.

One income and one health insurance coverage make that hard…

Her insurance and retirement package are top notch along with a good salary

Not to mention, I’ve seen the spending habits of stay at home moms and the savings wouldn’t amount to much.

If you’ve got 2 kids in daycare it’s probably cheaper for your wife to stay home.

Oh, we missed the part where SAHM stop spending money like it grows on trees.

OP, the expense is never going away. Now it's daycare, next it'll be travel ball and dance classes.

if the wife is making like 75k then sure, if she is making 500k then no.

Said differently: Leave your $250k/yr job and move somewhere that you can make $80k just so you can pay $100/week for daycare.

Stupid.

Yes, this is criminal, and then when the government steps into help you get the Learing Centers.

How so? Hiring a teenage girl at $15/hr is $600 a week.

I would be willing to bet that if you put pen to paper the cost is more reasonable than you would expect.

About 8 years ago, I was paying $1600 a month for 3 of them in Baton Rouge.
What Somalian home day care was this? I'm paying $1800 a month for one.

I paid for mine with a Flex spending account that came out of my paycheck, so, psychologically, I didn't feel it as bad because I never got that money in my check to begin with.

Think about it like paying your taxes. If it comes out of your check, you don't notice as much as if you had to stroke one big check at the end of the year.

daycares in the north Austin area and everything is $400+/week

That's what we are paying, just over $1600 per month for one kid. We have held off on buying my wife a new car for a couple years now because of it. Fortunately, we will be done with daycare in August and free up that money.

$400 a week in the Atlanta suburbs too. It’s hurts.

The price is insane because there are government vouchers issued based on your income if you are below a certain threshold. I am being penalized for being successful.

So your wife don’t want to take care of your children? Would rather go to work?
