A lot kids getting out of school EXPECT to start off in the top 80% of their pay scale and do not want to work hard and put in the time to earn it. It's all instant gratification and "what they deserve".

there was a time to keep the family unit together, this it. It’s better for everyone to stay together and keep the kids at home as long as possible.

Post -WWII America was not the norm throughout history. The idea that every couple would have their own home, car, and vacations… and then retire to travel and spend… that’s recent, and probably unsustainable. After WWII, the US was the only game in town if you wanted manufacturered goods. As other nations rebuilt and made the own stuff, Americans started living on debt to keep their new lifestyle up. Again, unsustainable.

As the US empire winds down and fiscal reality sets in, we’ll probably see families return to the pre-WWII standard: three generations under one roof, with few luxuries and less cash.

It is not 1940 anymore. So we don’t have to live like people did then. The way people lived before 1940 and “throughout history” does not matter lol.

This is a modern world we fly in the sky and talk to people across the world with a piece of metal in our hands we don’t have to wake up and work on the farm all day to continue eating.

There is definitely a way forward for young folks but the margin for error is razor thin...at least relative to what boomers and gen xers experienced.

First off start a career with growth potential which does not require a mortgage sized debt load. If it means going to college do it but seriously consider a trade...get paid to go to school instead of paying to go. Nothing says you can't become a journeyman and then go to college...and given that your life is most likely going to be longer and your career longer there is no reason that 4 years of schooling is all you will ever need. It ain't what previous generations did but it beats the hell out of being broke for 60 years.

Live in an area where there is work and live in the safest area you can EASILY afford...and be willing to relocate as often as opportunity presents itself. Loyalty to an employer is not appreciated and is in fact seen as a detriment to your development and the growth or an organization. It ain't easy leaving what you know but its better than being broke for 60 years.

With the relocation thing in mind avoid buying real estate...it is an anchore. Unless you intend to stay put for at least 5 years it is a mistake...unless of course your employer reimburses you for moving then there is some money in it. They are rare and getting rarer. Seriously consider buying in an area you'd like to retire in and develop it and put a tenant in it...and rent wherever you live. You can break a lease a lot cheaper than you can sell a pile of bricks.

Drive modest vehicles which will do what you need and nothing more. No one needs an F-250 diesel 4wd as a daily driver to the office park...but many are used that way.

Pay attention to your health....seriously. You can do everything right and hit the health lottery and find yourself broker than a 2 dicked dog....you can eat right and exercise and still win that lottery but the odds are better for you.

Do not accumulate shite. Throw it the hell away or better yet do not buy it in the first place. Want a boat? Great...buy a cheap one. You ain't gonna have time to use it any more if it costs $100K or $1000...in fact if it costs a grand you might have more time to use it...

Go ahead and start a family when you are comfortable doing so...if anyone waited until it was financially feasible to have a baby there'd be about 7 people on the entire planet. Do not spoil the children though...tell them no. Often and without thought most of the time. They do not need a lot and what they want is your time, not your money...and for you to pay for those disney trips and what not your going to swap what they want...your time...for the money to pay for your idea of dream for them. Seriously...all they want is time with you doing just about anything youre doing...

Live in moderation...do not buy shite you do not need, do not eat or drink excessively, enjoy the small things in life and by all means live comfortably within your means whatever they are...material possessions, traveling on credit, way more house than you need or can afford are all anchors and will remove happiness from your life...

It ain't as easy as it was just 30 years ago. Young folks have inherited a shitty deal from every generation but the last couple have inherited the worst deal in the history of this country. Keep in mind that folks all over the world would swap places with you in a heartbeat...while your deal may be shitty it is still the dream of millions of people around the world. Maybe young folks will turn the tide and their kids will have a better deal when they become adults...most likely they will get greedy and steal as much as they can from their kids like every generation before them but maybe not...

The sad thing is that if you keep your mouth shut, listen and bust your arse you’ll move up quickly. Part of their problem is they’ve never worked before so even the basics of showing up on time and dealing professionally with clients/customers are new concepts.

Probably it’s because already successful people are getting married

I think the horrifically slanted divorce (and custody) courts have a lot to do with this as well.

All I know is inflation is killer. I made plenty enough to live comfortably 5 years ago. My salary has not gone up much while my expenses have rapidly increased.

Property tax
Insurance
Groceries
Gas

I have zero debt but I also have very little excess money anymore unlike before.

Not in the corporate world. Busting your arse will just lead to a bigger workload and a "Meets Expectations"/2% raise at the end of the year. The loud arse-kissers are the ones who move on up.

Yea but we should have to work on the farm to eat

Hopefully Putin can save us and bring us back pre 1940. Maybe like 1400s

I don’t know how true this is anymore

There are plenty of countries out there with no income tax and you can have machine guns and buy steroids at the gas station. A lot of Americans are so used to being not free that it sounds preposterous

seems like it’s definitely more critical to get started on a good path at a young age.

I can’t imagine being 30+ and deciding “it’s time to get my life together” in this economic climate.

The cost of a home, car, groceries and nearly everything else is 2-3 times more than 20-30 years ago. Yes wages have increased but mostly wages for the bottom earners such as minimum wage earners. The annual salaries of middle class Americans have not increased anywhere near the cost of everything.

Only if you check the right DEI boxes. That is a very real thing in corporate America.

Every day is a chance to get my life together

Not that it ever happens

The worst part is I want to be a slumlord but they don’t take my questions seriously on money board

One day section 8 will give me more money than I pay in taxes and I will finally be free

That’s what I was gonna say.

They voted for this, let them reap it. Maybe, just maybe they’ll see the error of their ways. But I’m not betting on it.
