Eloise was a bitch too. Rode that one out in PCB. Completely remade Destin/FWB.
Read up on that one not long ago.
Sounds like an 18' storm surge took out 90% of all structures south of 98 between FWB and PC for what was a mid to strong cat3.
Even factoring in the new storm codes, can you imagine the financial impact if that same storm occurred today?

Damn, Lee is one slow-moving hurricane. Thank God it's not going over much inhabited land.

A lot of those structures were “Old Florida,” pre-building code, on-slab, Mom & Pop hotels and bars. The stuff they built in its place is much more resilient, but it would still be bad. BTW, Harvey Jackson has a great book on “Old Florida”—The Rise and Decline of the Redneck Riviera: LINK

Is it normal for them to move this slow?

By next week the cold North Atlantic waters will eat ole Lee up…

Nope. It is the vast Atlantic that makes it seem to be moving even slower.

Looking increasingly more likely that Maine is going to have some issues with Lee.

Until today the cone was narrow. Why has it suddenly broadened, not just doubled in width, but maybe even quadrupled (increasing the uncertainty at the very least)?
Posted on 9/8/23 at 6:26 pm to LegendInMyMind
that really sucks for them too - the Maine Coast is beautiful country - especially Bar Harbor area.

The cone size has not changed. It is always 2/3 of the typical error in track prediction at that point out in time.
I know it looks like it, but Im telling you thats not how the cone works.

Lee is also getting its arse kicked by SW shear. Pressure way up. Winds more Cat 2-3. Which, yeah, matches what the satellite is showing.

Where’s the latest sketti models? Our resident TD meteorologists are slacking.

More proof they still have big issues forecasting intensity.
