re: Is bragging about how early you wake up still a thing?

My take on sleep is that good quality sleep is hugely important for a person’s mental and physical well-being. I only set an alarm clock for making an early plane flight. That’s (usually) around 10 mornings per year. So ~99% of the time I wake up when I’m ready to wake up. That’s pretty luxurious and I’ve worked hard to get myself into that situation in life.
Works well for me.
ETA: I’m not worried about anyone else’s sleep patterns, when a person dies they don’t get recognition for the least amount of sleep needed. Conversely, sleeping too much is sloth.

It's the same boomers that brag how early they get into the office, but the reality is they spend the first two hours getting coffee, taking a shite, and reading the news.

This.
Fortunately he's almost 4 now and is starting to sleep a little later on the weekends.

When I was a little kid I always wanted to sleep to 7:30 AM on Saturdays but my Dad had my little butt in the boat fishing. Now I wake up at 3:30 AM everyday without an alarm. My wife (no pics) thinks I'm crazy.

The question is...why is this a big deal to brag about?
Posted on 1/11/22 at 2:36 pm to Biganeau
I don't have to be at the office until 8:30. I wake up everyday at 6:45. That's enough time for me to do everything I need to do, while still making it to work on-time. On days I work remote, I wake up between 8-8:15.
Some brag about how early they wake up. Well, I'll brag about how late I wake.

I’ll have you know that I wake up at 4am at the latest.

That’s fricking ridiculous and probably unhealthy.

I always stay up until 11:30-12:00 during the week. From 8PM to 12AM I can catch up on sports or whatever uninterrupted by children with iPads screaming, playing (kid stuff).
I am up by 6:30AM and out the door by 7:30AM and at work by 8. If I went to sleep at 8:30 or 9:00 PM I would be wide awake at 3:30 in the morning. The only time I do this is when i'm going fishing on the weekends. I don't wake up early unless I have something to do.

I'm usually up at 6 am and in the office by 8 am. Though I often wake-up at 5 or so, but I just lay in bed listening to the news on the radio.
I have a coworker who's up at 4:00 am because he's anxious about stuff and has to drop his kids off and he's in the office at 9:00am.

From reading thru this thread, it seems that some of you think that sleeping til 7:30 or 8am is “sleeping in”…. I guess, relative to someone who wakes at 4 or 5am , it is… but is there anyone like me who regularly wakes at 8 or 8:30, and sleeps til 9 or 10am on the weekends? I dont have kids and i work remote for the most part, so it works for me.. Also, if i didnt have to work at all, or if i were retired - my normal body clock would have me going to sleep most nights at 2 or 3am and waking at the crack of Noon.

I haven’t been able to work following medical issues and I don’t collect unemployment or disability and I still wake up at 4am bc I don’t want to feel like a lazy pos.

I still wake early on my days off. After 20+ years of early starts, I rarely require an alarm. It's the only peaceful time of day and often most productive.
I wouldn't say it's bragging. It's just a preference. I'm content to let everyone else sleep while I get shite done because they're usually the ones holding shite up. Plus, I leave between 1-2 PM and let them deal with the rest of the day.

Never understood why HS started at 7:00 back during the 1980’s. As a teenager, I woke up at 6:00 and had to be at the bus stop for 6:30. Went to school until 2:30. Participated on the cross country team till about 4:00. Got home at went to work at Winn Dixie from 5:00 to 10:00 pm. Get home and do homework. Forget about having a girlfriend at 16 years old.
