Few people who live near Memphis want to be there. It's a real shiithole with lots of businesses have closed doors there over the last decade.

In my field it would be a good place to open a place being centrally located and a transportation crossroads with an international airport.

Dallas would be more of the place to "make it big."

I grew up in Louisiana. Got a degree from LSU, and had no desire to move to Houston.

Closing in on graduation I got an invitation to interview with a company in Houston, I laughed and said I'd never move to Houston, but I'd take the free trip. Then they offered 10k more than any offers I got in Louisiana.

I hated Houston when I first moved. But now, ten years later, I have little interest in moving back to Louisiana.

Noonan what part of Houston? We live in Cypress and like it. The amount of people from Louisiana here is staggering.

I don't get the Houston negativity on this board. Almost everyone I have talked to here from Louisiana has a better quality of life in every single aspect and haven't talked to anyone looking to move back.

If so DFW is the LA of Louisiana.

We are out of reach of most people's expectations

Well not everyone that’s for damn sure. This is the last place I’d want to be.

think your assessment does hold some water. It's like what Dallas is for Houstonians. They all aspire to move north and join us. People naturally want to move up in life.

The insecurity of Dallas people is pathetic. “Please think our city is really cool!” It’s not that good.

Nah, RI leans much closer to Boston than NYC.

Living in Houston would be like living in a strip mall

If you can’t understand the dearth in Louisiana of many corporate headquarters and important industries, which offer the kinds of jobs many talented people are looking for (and leaving for), you’re missing something. It’s not lack of talent, but lack of opportunity.

I think Austin/hill country area offers way more outdoor activities than Dallas and Houston combined.

It does.

Plus it’s not as big and spread out but Austin’s downtown is big enough to give you a city feel.

Austin traffic is like eating one big bag of dicks though.

Many opportunities in Houston/Texas you don't have in La.
Like I told someone when I left N.O. there are very few companies to be V.P. of in La vs Texas.
You can be a territory manager, regional manager but to really move up you have to be a the home office.

You think most people WANT to move to Houston? It's not a bad place but people move their because it's the closest city with job opportunities.
