you say this, but a lot of left handed children end up becoming fairly ambidextrous in a lot a ways. I for one am almost completely a righty now minus writing.
Yeah my wife is a lefty so I like to give people shite about being wrong-handed. Like you, she does most things right handed except writing and a few other things, I guess mostly fine motor skills stuff. She complains when she has to use regular scissors.

There are more lefties today than there were 100 years ago..

As a lefty, I learned to use regular scissors early on.

I can't use the "left-handed" ones.

I have a left-handed friend and he writes in cursive from right to left in perfect mirror image.

He can read it fine, but it looks like gibberish. Hold a mirror to it and it’s perfect.

He says his brain just sees it like that…

True! My husband and I are both left-handed.

I am a lefty… As you're writing, you are blocking what is already been written with your hand. Therefore I disagree with you that is better to be a lefty writing left to right

I became ambidextrous with my feet. I'm right footed (but left handed, oddly) but could kick so well with with my left that I'd get put at left wing in soccer in high school.

No. I can also write in Arabic, which is right to left, and it is way easier to right that way as a left hander.

Remember those Eraser Mate pens? Being left handed and using one was a joke. All of your notes were smeared.

This is the kind of out-of-the-box thinking I expect from the OT. Upvote.

Left handed people (I am one) tend to have much better handwriting than righties and are more creative, as we use the right side of our brains more.

Other than that, there is no advantage to being left handed. We smear everything we write and spiral notebooks and binders are a pain in the arse. And don't even get me started on scissors meant for right handed people...

The world is catered to right handed individuals

No. You don’t need leverage or strength to write, which is the only thing being “behind” the pen or pencil would help with, you just end up putting more weight on your hand and your fine motor skills suffer as a result. I’ve never seen another left handed person with remotely good handwriting. It’s easier to pull the writing utensil to you than it is to “push” it.

My handwriting sucks, but I always could draw like a mofo.

In 3rd grade, they put me in a handwriting class. After the Christmas break, they gave up and put me in art

While being left handed has it’s drawbacks, we get gratification knowing we are generally smarter than most!
