Penrod said he made 40K/year in the 80s and paid 65K for a 2500 sqf house

HouseMom thinks there are tons of precious homes in BR for 200K; what any of that means is unknown

Greenbean lived paycheck to paycheck but somehow saved a ton for retirement

N2cars is probably just fricking around

Typical boomer shite

Makes perfect sense now

I think N2cars may be poking the bear but I can’t keep up with everyone.

Hating on your betters is never gonna get you that assistant barista promotion. Get back to scrubbing those foam nozzles, chop-chop.

Kroger is selling ground beef for $10 a pound. I thought grocery prices were supposed to go down?

I have a local butcher who raises his own beef and pork and sells his cuts at his store front. Obviously it's a far superior product than what you get in grocery stores, and for the first time since he's been open his beef is cheaper than grocery stores.

I still think the housing market is about to tank. Most people can't afford current prices and rates. Powell cutting 25 bps won't matter when prices need to correct 25-30%.
___________

Prices are high but you have to consider rent prices as well. Some buy just because of how ridiculously high rental prices are.

Last time I bought coffee at a store it was at a marina, the most expensive place to buy anything, and it was less than $1. What are you people buying?

Yep, we just started shopping at a local butcher shop and their prices are maybe $1 higher than Kroger, but the quality is way better.

No worries, the topic of expensive arse coffee drinks has been discussed a lot in this thread, so I don’t blame you.

So to put a bow on this thread, yes the personal economies for younger families are difficult as education and housing costs have far outstripped inflation and wage growth, but if they just grind a little harder, skipping the coffee and ditching the cell phone, they too will magically get a home at half its current market value with a 2% 30-year note.

How in the world did this thread get to 27 pages? Not reading that many pages and genuinely curious.

OP is asking why people think the economy is bad. I don't think it is bad. I think inflation is high ( much higher than reported, but this has been the case for many years). I think we are headed for an extended period where inflation remains high. The rest of the economy is doing fine because both the consumer and our government are spending more money than they should.
