TLDR: Vegas is slow at times for sure, but not dead at all.
The major conferences have not dropped off in popularity, as those are still major hits
…but where they’re seeing a major decline jn tourism is on weekends where there is not a major conference… people just can’t afford to come to Vegas anymore like they used to

You're a weekend early.
Vegas was fine during the playoffs.
Yeah, I expect the sports books will be busy as ever this weekend.
Gamblers don't care who the halftime entertainment is.

Subtle "I get to go to fancy conferences" brag.

When you start to charge $17 for two bottles of water, and $50.00 per cocktail, you are telling the average Joe that you are not interested in their business anymore.
And this doesn't even begin to include resort fees, parking fees, $70 buffets, and $150 steaks.

All the bachelorette parties are now in Nashville, Charleston, Austin, etc and guys are doing Bourbon/golf trips
Truth! We have loads of younger people in our firm in their 20s and 30s going on bachelorette and bachelor party trips left and right… Las Vegas never comes up
Nashville is pretty much all I ever hear these days

I'm sure it hurts Vegas quite a bit that you can now gamble real money in every concievable way on your phone.

March Madness in Vegas is pretty insane. We went on the first weekend, but I've heard the second weekend is the move. Less crowded and still a lot of games to bet on.

I haven’t been in a few years but it seems like the mega casinos are rolling over. Not a lot of people want to play the minimums and they just don’t have a fun vibe. Too sterile.
We always ended up at old Vegas listening to bands and gambling down there. Looser more fun crowd and lower limits.

Vegas is really only busy and happening with LSU fans come to town. They damn near run ouf of alcohol and the city is almost overwhelmed.
Welp... that was the narrative around here when LSU played USC in 2024. Truth.

People can’t afford Vegas in this economy.
It also doesn’t help that Canadians are basically boycotting the US these days.

I can bet football on my phone, eat a good steak from the butcher shop, and drink as much as I please. All from the comfort of my own home. Vegas can shove it

But they do have an excellent Japanese restaurant.
And Randy’s Donuts are also a great food stop.
Glad to hear it’s dead, that’s exactly what I’m looking for when I go to Vegas. I hate crowded casinos. I love the ones where I have more freedom to roam and enjoy meals.

First weekend is much better
Far more watch events for a day of betting on games, and the vibes are much better with games ending essentially every few minutes, wall to wall and everyone has something on the line. If your goal is to be in Vegas to enjoy march madness, the 1st week is the week
Pool days are much better as well 1st week, a lot more eye candy

Vegas isn't dead, they just aren't catering towards regular folks these days. Its all about 400 dollar a night rooms and 150 dollar steaks

Vegas has priced itself out of being a destination for a lot of people. The fees and food prices are ridiculous

Maybe I’m fantasizing over a period that never truly existed, but I can get 3 buddies to go to the Beau and there is a reasonable chance that 1 or 2 of us will have his portion of the whole trip paid for with their winnings
You aren't.
Went twice while I was in school in 2017 and again in 2018
For me and the wife (girlfriend at the time) it was like $600 total for 3 nights and flights

My perception was that casual gamblers and tourists were more or less being subsidized by gamblers for a long time. Hence, there was good value proposition for those who wanted to gamble a little (and accepted loss) but would "make it up" in getting free drinks, nice hotel room for a reasonable number and reasonably priced meals at nice restaurants, etc.
Even without comps, I feel like normal people anticipated being able to at least eat and drink at comparable city prices and get far more "luxury" to that experience than they would for equivalent spend at home (setting aside the money they spent in the casino).
