10k is insane to go between oil changes. Especially with direct injection. Just my opinion. My VW says that schedule. I changed it every 3-5k when I was beating the crap out of it. With synthetic.

I change mine every 15k like clockwork.

I just get the oil changed when my truck tells me to.

Same ppl that say you need to shower every single day.

FordTech Makuloco recommends 5k full synthetic intervals for the Ecoboost specifically due to turbo failure. I thought he was full of shite and did 10k full synthetic....then my turbos died. Now I do 5k.

Lets get past the fact that I dont change my own oil.
I don't change mine either but I like to check it pretty often.

The place I go is 4000 on the sticker and I get it changed at 5K.

I change every 5k religiously and have never had engine problems. I’ve also driven nothing but 5.3 V8’s from GM that have the vaunted “lifter issue”. The lifters operate better on fresh oil
Now in my old avalanche that had the 5.3 pre AFM/lifters I did every 8-10k miles and never had issues but that engine was more bulletproof than the newer ones.
It’s likely a bit overkill but I prefer overkill on vehicle maintenance than the other way around. Like I said I’ve driven GM 5.3 for 100’s of thousands of miles and no issues

Made it to 215K miles with my 2011 ecoboost replacing oil every 8-10K miles before she cracked
Already ordered the parts to replace the turbo
It’s gonna suck real bad

Why
This kinda explains it. Plucked from a forum:
Used Oil Analysis of all direct injection engines shows varying levels of fuel contamination. This primarily happens because fuel is sprayed directly into the combustion chamber and wil not completely vaporize when the engine is still cold. It comes in contact with the oil around the rings and is dissolved.
Short trips and cold weather will increase fuel dilution. Driving while the engine is up to temperature will help evaporate/remove fuel from the oil, but some will always remain as like-dissolves-like and the oil will hold onto some fuel.
The concern with fuel dilution is that it lowers the viscosity of the oil. A bit of dilution is no problem, a lot could be. If you're doing frequent short trips (especially in cold weather) consider changing the oil more frequently as this is consider "severe service" conditions

Change my own oil. Easy process, simple, and learn things about your vehicle.
I know how to change my own oil but after buying the oil($20) and the filter($10), I'd much rather pay $10 more to have someone do it all for me. It's not worth the hassle of gathering all my tools, Put the car on ramps, etc.

I feel 10k is just asking for sludge build up in the valve train and valves over time. I don't think the oil has less viscosity or whatever over time. If you are putting highway miles on it then it's probably fine. If it's a once a year change and city driving it's probably going to be an issue in 40-50k miles. My VW spent a lot of it's time at 6k rpms+ so oil change was cheap insurance for a happy motor.

Just traded in a truck yesterday with 170k miles. Never had an engine issue and never changed my oil until the vehicle told me it was time to change (10k miles). Actually never had an engine issue with any vehicle I've ever owned and followed the "oil life" provided by the vehicle. Save for like my first car that didn't have that feature and I followed the dated 3k mile interval.

I tried changing the oil on my older Ford Expedition this past weekend. Took me over an hour because the oil filter felt like it was glued on there. I had to run a screwdriver in it just to break it free. Then the oil drain plug was stripped so had to buy a new one. I'll gladly pay someone to bypass the hassle.

Lot of newer cars recomendation is in the 7-10k mile range or 1 year, whichever is 1st. I don't put a lot of mileage on my car as work and everything is only a couple of miles from the house, so I usually hit the 1 year mark before I get to 7k miles or even 5k sometimes. So I usually just get it changed once a year.

I just had the oil changed today on my daughter's 2008 Altima. It cost $43. I can scan a copy of the receipt if you like.
