That's truly sad. I'm not sure if it's better to know you're at/near the end or have it occur suddenly.

Sorry to hear that bud. Tough times. My dad is 70 and I dread that day if i outlive him.

We’re all just islands in the stream eventually.

And when he finished speakin'
He turned back toward the window
Crushed out his cigarette
And faded off to sleep
And somewhere in the darkness
The gambler he broke even
But in his final words
I found an ace that I could keep
You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done

Chris Stapleton performed The Gambler at Kenny's farewell concert in 2017. Killed it.

Sure hate to hear that. It doesn't matter how much fame or fortune you have, we all will eventually find ourselves in that same situation. In a dire situation and totally helpless to do anything about it. No one in the world can help you....

When I was a kid I thought Kenny was Grizzly Adams. It messed me up for a while when I found out he wasn’t.
Coward of the County was my favorite Kenny tune. That and Ruby

In my youth I wasn’t a Kenny Rogers fan as most of his “radio” songs weren’t my cup of tea Islands in the Stream, Daytime Friends, Lady, etc etc.
I later discovered Ruby, Sweet Music Man (which is a great song Kenny wrote and Waylon sang) and Just Dropped In which are great.

And super duper easy to play on guitar, even if you’re a hack like me.
