Lake Charles voted for this[/quote
Nic Hunter is a Republican and the incoming mayor is an Independent
I live in the neighborhood where the shooting occured and it was a VRBO rented out for a graduation party. Hard to believe with the amount of shots fired only one person was killed and zero reported injured.

That is FAR from a nice neighborhood. Most of South Lake Charles is nice and not actually in the LC city limit.

When are there shootings in the good neighborhoods in south BR?

We spoke to neighbors, who said the house where the shooting happened is a short-term rental that they believed was being used to host a high school graduation party.
Here’s the problem. Trashy people rent out an Airbnb in a nice neighborhood and then throw a huge party with no respect to the house or the neighborhood since none of them live there. I feel for the neighbors who bought a house on a normally quiet residential street and have to live next to the nonsense that comes along when someone decides to turn the house next door into a short term rental.
The OT likes to shite on HOA’s, but at least most HOA’s would block STR there.

Yep. The people that dislike HOAs are generally trashy people doing trashy things so the HOA comes down on them

At least I can catch specks, reds and flounders in Lake Charles.
I can’t do that in Baton Rouge’s lakes.
So that bumps LC above in my unprofessional opinion.

These graduation parties are out of hand. Last year, parents rented an AirBnB and the kids were throwing the toilet off the roof

Lake Charles has:
- decent public golf courses
- a loop
- a beach
- casinos that you won’t get mugged in
Baton Rouge has non of these things.

I live in south Lake Charles and it is a pretty good place to live all things considered. It is very different than Oak Park, north Lake Charles.
Halloween in our neighborhood is great, people leave big bowls of candy out with a light on the porch if they are out with their own kids trick or treating. No one just takes all of the candy, some residents dress up and everyone is nice. It's just a great time for the kids and the adults have fun also.
Nelson elementary is a good school. There are some really good local restaurants such as Nina P's, Darrell's, Mr. Bill's (excellent fried fish), Pats of Henderson, etc.
There are two big, nice casinos with more restaurants and everything else that casinos offer, gambling, pools and entertainment, etc.
All in all you could do much worse than living in south Lake Charles at least.

It's sad what has happened to University neighborhood. I used to ride my bike around there because the neighborhood was just really nice with lots of trees, good parks, etc.

Beach at the Nugget is pretty sweet. Pull up and have drinks and grab a bite and walk in the sports book and lay some coin down if you want.
Also some good eye candy

I agree, but like I said earlier, when everyone keeps moving south to newer developments, a vacuum is created in older neighborhoods like University.
And it's not BAD, but not nearly the same SES it was 20-30 years ago. FK White going to shite really caused a lot of middle class flight. Nobody wants their kid going there.

That beach in LC is nothing to brag about. It's trashy as hell, figuratively and literally.
When's the last time you've seen it? Curious
