Depending on if you are in DFW area or Houston area, I think you’ve gotten some good advice. BUT... just spend a few hundred on cheap flights to Vegas and do it right. Spend a decent amount gambling and (in the future) they will comp your rooms, food, and even some free play. The Vegas resorts really give you a much better “getaway” experience. Either way, good luck and have fun!

Don't do Paragon or Kinder. Nothing else to do except the casino. Shreveport and Lake Charles is your best and closest bet, no pun intended. Horseshoe in Shreveport, Golden Nugget in L.C. Not as big as the Indian casinos but who cares there is something to do outside of the casinos in either places.

psst...

Winstar World Casino & Resort, under 2 hours north of DFW, one of the largest in the world, indians (feathers not dot) doing it right...

What is the best casino in Louisiana for a weekend getaway with the wife?

I’d go to the beau rivage in Biloxi before I went somewhere in Louisiana.

Honestly, I'd stay on the interstate for another half hour and go to the Beau in Biloxi.

I don’t expect many of these people driving over for casinos give two shits about what the towns have to offer outside of gambling. No offense but Shreveport and LC don’t have shite to do outside of these resort casinos. Compared to HTX & DFW anyways.

For real if you’re coming from anywhere in north Texas just go to winstar. It’s legit and very close to Dallas. Winstar is 81 Miles from Dallas.

Harrah’s sucks, but being in New Orleans is great.

LaBerge in Baton Rouge is the best casino imo.

Paragon has the best concerts if that’s your thing.

Beau Rivage a couple hours down I-10 in Biloxi is way nicer than any of the casinos in Louisiana.

Laubege and GN out here are much better than Lauberge in BR. the one in BR is like the low rent LDL

GN is more favored than LDL out here, but i like LDL better b/c its not as cheesedick and is more low energy

Kinder or either lake Charles casino also have better concerts than paragon

Paragon won’t even be there in 5 years

Why do you say that? Is the financial situation there that bad? They've seemed pretty busy every time I've been.
