Leaving next week.
We moved back to Alexandria and tried to make it work for a few years. You can’t. I remember when we moved back I expected things to have moved along a little bit. And to be fair they have. They’ve gone from the year 1998 to the year 2010. Still a good 15 years behind both in terms of the mindset of people as well as technology.
This is the way of the past. This town will die out and will be full of people with no hope. Crime is increasing. There was a week in November where we had a shooting every day, some of them in broad daylight
It’s just pathetic.

actually really enjoy living in Louisiana and alot of it is what you make of it.....to an extent....some things though, like constant culture, are unavoidable day to day no matter where you live
Also F mosquitoes

The cajun culture and food is literally the best in this country lol
Posted on 1/6/26 at 11:51 am to Paul Allen
does this factor in the amount of illegal immigrants being deported from states like california and NY?
Posted on 1/6/26 at 11:58 am to MisterMagoo
Tbh the Cajun food is being replicated by Asians across the country and it’s pretty legit. The culture can stay tho nobody wants that

I have tried, what they call "cajun" food all over the country and it simply doesn't compete at all.

That’s not a bad reason at all. Your parents won’t be around forever.
Most of the OT's wives would appreciate being able to spend the extra 25% you can make in Texas in the same job, though.
Louisiana: the state were MBA graduates stay in order to wait tables to be close to family.

I've seen this a bunch of times on here but am curious what makes Louisiana so much more of a "sportsman's paradise" than neighboring coastal states like Mississippi, Florida, the Carolinas, etc.
Seems like it's more of a marketing slogan that seems to have worked on some/many.
ETA: Imagine what this chart would look like if illegals were not counted in the census.

Mississippi is probably about the same because good salt water fishing can be so close, but when combining salt and fresh water fishing, waterfowl, and deer hunting, Louisiana blows Florida and the Carolina’s out of the water. Not even close

Amazing that you can't drive to such luxuries on the weekend say, from a place like Beaumont, and still make more money than living in LA.

florida and the carolinas are for fishing
but i can answer
1) best in land salt water fishing in the US
2) some of the best fresh water fishing in the world
3) because of where the shelf is, the off shore fishing off the SE portion of the state is up there with the best
4) duck hunting used to be stupid good, not as much anymore
because of the amount of navigable water ways, lots of boating
now i would say florida and parts of carolina have passed up LA on some of these.
I love parts of both of those states, particularly love the 30A area of florida, Clear Water Beach/naples/ other areas along florida gulf coast and will retire there.
i did visit charleston and surrounding areas last year and enjoyed it but prefer florida.

The top two things tethering me to Louisiana are gone. I'm 100% looking to move in the next 4 years, or once my oldest graduates and goes off to college.

Nothing. That’s what I’m saying. I grew up here and the opportunities to hunt fish shoot etc have become limited and expensive.

Beaumont
I’m amazed there are people in this thread holding up Beaumont as an example of a place that is better than Louisiana. Beaumont is a straight shithole and one of the few places you could name anywhere in the country that is actually NOT better than Louisiana.

Good luck brother. We left too. I miss it a lot sometimes but the quality of life improvement elsewhere is so much better you really can’t justify sticking around. I wish it was different but you have to live in reality especially when there are kids involved.

Someone moving in oder to better provide for their family is far more noble than staying put for the myriad of reasons people never leave their hometown.
Is money everything to you? Would you just live wherever pays the most, just so that you can “provide” better for your family.
Money isn’t my only priority, proximity to loved ones matters more to me and the values that I want to instill in my family.
I’m not saying that you should strive to be a brokedick, but you should be able to provide for your family while also not sacrificing other things that should take a priority over how many pennies you can rub together.

So in other words, this state has like 3 desirable areas to live. New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Monroe, Shreveport, Alexandria...all crapholes.
I live in a fantastic area - Old Metairie. It’s high income, great demographics. Retirees go for walks after dark with very low fear of crime. And there are a lot of good restaurants walking distance from my house.

Beaumont isn’t as bad as people make it out to be.

frick off man. You have no idea what you are talking about. We have no more shitty people than anywhere else. There are some great people, salt of the earth in Louisiana. Aim your bullshite at the politicians.

Most people live in Louisiana because of family and friends. Otherwise we would be long gone.
