I was a Counterintelligence Agent 97B at the time, I think a 35L now. I was told that I would be like James Bond, carrying a badge and a gun and wearing a suit. 20 year old me fell for it hook line and sinker.

I spent 90% of my time doing background checks for soldiers wanting a security clearance behind a desk, occasionally going out in the field to do some cool shite, what I was fed was a complete farce. Not sure if much has changed, that was 15 odd years ago and I’m at colonoscopy age now.

Yeah, I remember guys in commercials sitting at desk looking at dos type screens and talking on mics under the guise of comms. Sign up, they hang 60# radio on your back.

Now imagine being a high speed SF bubba and having to police up the area just like PVT Snuffy. That happens too.

Almost all the marines I know are pretty good respectable guys and the few I know or know of that went to the Air Force are pretty smart. The army is mixed but that’s just my experience. I don’t know anyone that joined the navy except my grandfather but that was WWII.

"We don't have that MOS available right now. Sign up for Vermin Control Specialist and we'll change you over after Basic."

Ever cut grass with a lawnmower with 3 wheels? I did all the time. Luckily Baghdad didn't have much grass. We would have been cutting it.

I'm an Air Force Comm guy. E-6 with 8 years TIS.

They definitely mislead you with commercials but overall I couldn't be happier with my choice to join.

They def tell you that you're going to work in a place like this:

And you actually work in a place like this:

Luckily for me, I work on an OPs floor like in the first picture now

Air Force - Women and Air Conditioning, not really the military
Army - You’re not very smart and can catch bullets well, not necessarily with your hands.
Marines - Are you Latino? Do you have a predisposition for domestic abuse or murder of your spouse?
Navy - Are you Latino? Do you have a predisposition for domestic abuse or murder of your same sex spouse?
Space Force - What the frick is that?

This is about the most accurate assessment I've seen. .

Not even close! The Navy prefers Filipino's to Latino's get your facts straight!

In reality most people won't end up in SF, Special ops, Ranger etc but it is there. And you don't have to be in these operations to do some cool stuff in the regular army.
