The whole job of the city council is oversight of the Mayors office and a member of that council acts like this is some new thing that she didn't approve...

^^^This ^^
While Latoya may be the most unabashedly bad mayor N.O has had recently, it seems obvious her real role, whether knowingly or not, will be to take the fall for decades of mismanaged and misdirected funds up to and including those monies misspent under the watch of the current council which included Moreno who is now Shocked! Shocked! to find out about it.

by adding 50 parking employees and seeking $100 million in unpaid parking tickets.

What will be the long term cost of hiring those 50 employees? Is the salary and benefits (insurance and retirement) worth it?

Conveniently, we find out about this after she gets elected. Just more of the same and no one will call her out on it

Cantrell and her stooges were lying to the council. The budget they submitted was fraudulent and should result in indictments for malfeasance

It is the council’s job to question that

Where was the city council?

Cantrell covered it up. Her COA covered it up by just not answering or telling lies.

Even the guy running the books that was running for mayor (republican) never brought it up because it was unknown for a large part.

People (bayoumamabears) harp on the OT but don't realize that was talked about and the answer given is that it was allocated from a different pile.

The good news is Moreno is getting her hand forced to cut a lot of the staff and that is way better than anyone could have hoped.

They did. They were lied to. The checks and balances were "in" on it or more than likely just not doing their jobs.

Wouldn't surprise me. The charges against her are weak compared to what everyone thinks she did.

What's crazy is I think Cantrell is "innocent" in the budget shite. She is ultimately responsible but I don't think she was involved enough and the puppet people behind the scene were just doing whatever they wanted.

Someone needs to be charged with malfeasance in office, maybe felony charges.

well, i guess this will slow the increase in the number of new hires to fix pot holes and streets as she promised on a commercial that was aired nonstop in the campaign. I think they will be holding steady at 4 employees if no staff is reduced due to the deficit.

Last time I was in NOLA, Decatur was torn up with "an improvement" that might be finished by Mardi Gras. I know that is a S&WB problem, but still doesn't help all of the businesses that want tourist access for $.

How can't elected officials get their shite together?

Moreno is just as guilty as dumb arse Latoya. She approved the budget and has more control over it as a council member

Many may argue otherwise, but I believe Mitch did more lasting damage to the city.

IMO, Mitch made the statues as divisive as he could. A lot of Southern cities took down their Confederate statues and almost no one noticed or cared. Mitch made it an issue so he could be the hero.

JP, Giarusso, and Moreno werw by no means part time, that is why Giarusso is hanging it up.

You are right though the Mayor has tons of power and council has little control over the executive. The travel situation was a perfect example.

Hes said he wants to focus more on his work

Reality is he was term limited and was not going to win an at large seat.
