Personally know 19 of 20. Don’t personally know a Benoit. Went to high school with 17/20.

I know Benoits, they own car dealerships over here in SWLA.
Surprised to not see Fusilier on that list. Seems like every other persons last name around here is Fusilier

Cajuns are a mix of French, Spanish, and German, as are their last names

Are your ancestors from southwest Louisiana or New Orleans? If New Orleans or the general area then you are technically Creole and not Cajun (and 100 years ago this was a good thing).

It is at least French, not sure if it’s Cajun or Creole though

In 1785, Spain sent seven ships of exiled Acadians to Louisiana. There were about 1,600 settlers. The link below lists their names of which many are on the most common Cajun surnames list.

This is not true. some Cajuns settled in Nola or surrounding area
Also St. Landry, Iberia, St. Martin parishes are full of Creoles(those who's ancestors didn't come from Nova Scotia). Bunch of Creoles in Avoyelles also
Also SW LA - which consist of Jeff Davis, and Calcasieu, and Allen parishes isn't really that Cajun
Cameron, Vermillion, Acadia, and Evangeline are. Lafayette Parish also has lot of Cajun last names
