Depends, but mostly sold by the pound.

These customers are just an absolute pain in the arse, but most stores will just let this fall under shrink. Produce shrink is typically high enough that this won't make a difference to their margins.

With all that said, frick people like her. At $3 a lb, she's saving like 10 cents doing this shite and all it does is piss off the produce workers who get to the store at 3-4 AM to set up the wet rack. Also, frick people who shuck their corn and leave the husks all over the place.

Why do you like taking profits from the business which employees American's, all because some swamp donkey don't want to pay full price for a product? You frickin homeys make me sick. No wonder why you a frickin clown.

I prefer the stems and cabbage cores, etc. etc. The wife can eat those damned florets.

I guess that's about the same as people who swap out the $1.99 a lb. scan stickers for the $0.79 a lb. sticker from some other produce.

I do the same thing with bananas if they only have huge bunches. Peel off 4 or 5 and leave the rest.

This is a really bad comparison.

You aren't removing the actual bananas peels and just weighing the edible fruit inside.

This is what Biden meant when he said we saved $0.04 on our holiday meals.

They sell the whole broccoli and they also sell the “crowns” with minor stems.

Crowns are more expensive as they don’t have the stem.

She is buying the “crowns” at the base price.

So yes, she is sort of stealing.

Isn’t broccoli usually sold by the unit, not the LB?

Does it explicitly state that anywhere or is it just assumed?

It’s in the implicit social contract. If you don’t inherently know something like that is wrong, shop owners should be able to happily refuse you service.

Never seen it done with broccoli, but every year around St Patrick's Day I see people peeling off a layer or two on cabbage.
