You guys are going to confuse poor grandma. Pay for the direct TV and let her be
If I can teach my parents how to navigate Sling TV and Amazon Prime on a Visio smart TV, then he can teach her to use that. Especially when you can mark the channels as favorites and keep from having to search them.

Get internet
Buy a Superbox
Set up her channels under favorites

Even with the recent price hikes YouTube TV is less than half that (around $90/month) with all the local channels and Hallmark
Might as well keep directv at that price. She just needs to call and change her plan. I have direct TV and pay 90 bucks a month which includes all the movie channels. Just threaten to cancela and they'll offer you great deals.

She wants her local channels
Sorry to say this, but those local channels are partially cause her cable bill to be so high.
I have heard some markets have nearly a 50 dollar fee just for local channels.
The TV stations and the Networks are getting greedy, while they provide a signal that anyone can pick up for free with an antenna, but if a cable company redistributes that signal in the same local market area the TV station/Network wants a few dollars a month per subscriber.
I guess the money for multibillion dollar sports rights deals are not really paid for with adversting entirely, the consumer is paying for it partially through cable fees.

Antenna for local channels and if you get a Samsung smart TV it comes with Samsung+ which is free cables with 100's of channels (including Hallmark) for free.

She already knows the channel numbers on DirectTV, how to work it, etc. She’s not going to want to get used to something like YouTube TV without the channel numbers.
^^This. I changed from DirecTV to Youtube TV a few months ago and my wife (no pics) has basically quit watching tv unless I turn it on and put it on the channel for her. She can't get use to not have a "channel number" to turn to. Digital DirecTV might be an option as long as the format is similar to her current DirectTV.

You pay for youtube tv for yourself and then set her up as a family member and get her a sign in. The TV will stay signed in and she can watch all she wants. It will only cost you $79/mo

Sounds like my mom. She has 3 or 4 channels memorized and I get a copy of her bill. They offered to "lock in" her rate for 2 years but will charge her $240 to back out of it earlier.

Basic streaming package like YouTube TV will fix that right up.

Don't mess with it. My mom is 90 too, any change and you'll get many calls a day asking you what to do, and 90 year old year mothers don't wait. With her on the phone call DT and get them to lower the price.

Why so much? I pay $116 for DTV.

I believe you.
DirecTv is super-easy to navigate and works seamlessly on. multiple TVs. She can easily pause a show in the den and pick it up in the bedroom.
We still have it, and I like myself. Travel and RV-freindly. Coupled with our Starlink, it is hard to beat for simplicity.

$200 for Direct TV is the definition of price gouging

How long before you have her 'kidnapped' and held for ransom so you can tap into your successful sister's fortune?
Pathetic frick.

Basic Direct TV will have the local channels and hallmark. Probably about $70 including tax.

Don’t make any changes where it requires 2 remotes, going to app or changing input.
If it’s not a single remote that turns on, goes to desired channel, turns volume up/down, turns off, you are in for 1000’s of phone calls and trips over to “fix” tv.

I think I’ll just keep paying her Directv bill. She would crash if she had to learn a new system. Thanks everybody.

I'll be honest, old people and anything dealing with changing anything is extremely frustrating.
My mom's husband.. 83 years old.. I have been over there more often now because my mom is sick.. But every month this man complains about his Cox bill and wants to know what he could do to lower his bill. First thing I suggested is to get rid of the landline, but he says that's the number everyone knows, yet the only people who call it are scammers.
I told him anytime Cox goes up, I call them and remind them it would be cheaper for me to switch to Youtube (if I cancel I would have to go in person and bring them the box so if they keep the price were it is I will keep it) and he tells me "well I don't want to have to call them every time they go up again".
I guess its a generational thing? But its exhausting because they bitch about things then don't want to change to fix what they were bitching about.

There's not a single services company out there today that gives a shite about the customer anymore.. They're trying to extract as much money from whoever they can for as long as they can until they get fed up and cancel their service or change providers.
