I agree.
I own 4 retail hardware stores out of state.
Everyone says a grocery store could make it in NBR except grocery store owners.
I talked to former grocery store owners, looked at theft both employee & outside, distribution cost is higher, that industry is high turns low margin, workers that have low morale, not selling as much high margin products like prepared food, and increased security cost the numbers look horrible. I respect hi neighbor for staying in the area and they have an advantage of owning the property. Someone new coming in would have a hard time making it in the grocery store business.

What did the white working middle class of the Sherwood area due to keep it safe and vitalized that is now in the toilet?

I did my part. I moved out of Baton Rouge.

Move? Sherwood is fast becoming a war zone as the North of FL Blvd crowd creeps in. Property values are rocketing downward and crime is on the rise. Fact. It's not racial, its economic. People in the lower economic strata don't care for their property and participate in activities that attract crime. People who can afford to move do so because they don't want to live around that.

Maybe you can explain how one man can make it better?
Give us your solution to the crime problem that causes people to prefer moving.

We can't fix it. If we do, we'll be accused of gentrification, which is racist

While I agree with the general premise of the thread, the article headline and this thread lean towards clickbait status.
These tax breaks were just passed in April by the council and program rules likely weren't available until a month or so later.

It's not going to just be the next 4 years, either. This is the new normal.

The standard required to open a business in Scotland is so unreasonable, it becomes prohibitive.
Essentially you can't build new or remodel the outside of properties, for fear of gentrification. Many companies would love to move into that area, but reputable businesses don't want to move into those shitty buildings.
A Rent-A-Center would clean up in Scotlandville. A Carters would as well. A small 2nd run theater would own arse.
But these businesses would want to either demolish and build, or drastically renovate. Both of which are big "No No's" to black interests for fear of improving property values and quality of life.
So the area will just get more liquor stores, pawn shops, and rent-to-own rims.

So what will happen with this one project that did happen?
Posted on 12/24/16 at 9:17 am to johnnyrocket
And how do you fix that? By spending time with the kids, not looking for ways to be a slumlord.

What are YOU doing to fix it???

Can you elaborate on this? There are laws prohibiting this? Im not being sarcastic, genuinely curius what this means.

Why do I have to fix it?
I want to cut it off from the city of Baton Rouge. That's how to fix it.
