The point still stands that South Korea is an awful comparison since the US wasn't employing wide scale testing and trying to track down every possible contact of those testing positive weeks ago like South Korea reportedly did.
Cool, someone who has actually studied this instead of non-stop arguing on the internet.

However, nothing at all suggests any reason to look at South Korea aside from perhaps how to handle something like this better in the future and Italy is the only example with a significantly longer trajectory than us.
nothing suggests that we will have Italy's mortality or hospitalization rate either

quote:Again, the point of this isn’t to stop the spread but to slow the spread. You can’t stop it. There’s no vaccine. People will eventually be exposed. The point is to make sure the infrastructure can handle the cases along with any other problems healthcare typically deals with.
I think that's a problem that’s going to go away… They have studied it. They know very much. In fact, we’re very close to a vaccine.”
“The 15 (cases in the US) within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.”
“We're going very substantially down, not up.”

Basically the only stat that is real and is good enough to act on is the death toll.
I think number of people being hospitalized for it is much better.
In NY, for example, Cuomo is giving hospitalization stats in his daily update:
Yesterday, 17-18% of 10,000+ positive tests were in hospitals.
Today, it was around 13-14% of 15,000+ positive tests were in hospitals.
Haven't seen these stats published from many other states.

Wait. New York has 15k+ cases?
Yes. Seems to be jumping around 25% per day.
However, I do think that NY is probably succeeding in getting a lot more people tested. They made testing free right away but still you need doctor's recommendation for the test.

And they have scaled back their testing it seems. Only testing if it will change outcome.
Seems most are grasping that the test is just revealing it is a lot more widespread than the initial thought.

Because s korea was prepared with a plan and technology to test, isolate, and repeat at scale by focusing on those who were exposed or could have been exposed.
We dont have a plan or the volume of tests nor the technology to do what they did. Italy it is.

Ramped up testing doesnt mean spread and growth. It just means we are finding more that’s already out there.
This
It should be common sense that more positive tests are forthcoming as testing becomes more available and accessible and increases especially in asymptomatic people, but everyone will freak.

JBE explained it well.
We are on the same trajectory as Spain, Italy and SK. In the next week the hopes are that due to the measures we are taking, we hope to follow SK’s path and not Spain’s or Italy’s.

LA is fricking it up for Texas. Texas would be fine if LA wasn't right next to us. Especially everyone east of lake Charles and South of I 10.

They are also a country of 63 million people and we are a state of 4.5 million. Our numbers will be drastically less than what Italy is seeing. They also live on top of each other more like New York or some parts of New Orleans but more like New York City. We don’t compare in risk of transmitting it or population. New York is much more comparable.
