Most schools have tried this. It stopped working when parents stopped trusting the school to discipline their kid.
We can’t just legislate all types of behaviors. We actually have to teach kids things. More reductionist mindset that created the current retards and it’s only going to get worse

Then you don’t know jack about K-12 education. Add that to the list of things you’re constantly wrong about.
My kid doesn’t go to some trashy arse public school. Your mileage may vary

Well, this makes your comment even dumber.
If you’re paying for private school, the parents absolutely have a choice and a voice in the matter.

maybe finish reading the entire post..?
No. No one has time for that. I read a sentence and reacted and you’re an idiot if you don’t agree with me

This is what nearly all schools were doing a few years ago.
Cool. Now they are all required to do so.

You may not know parents who got pissed about this but they were out there. Why would you think schools would stop otherwise?
Obviously shitty parents exist, I just don't think it the majority when it comes to this.
I also think teachers played a role in this as well, as some teachers were more relaxed on this than others, and now the teachers themsevles could be disciplined for not enforcing the rule.

What is as ubiquitous as cell phones that aren’t allowed in school?
I mean before the internet and phones, you sent messages through notes and letters...those weren't allowed in class. You might go to the library and look something up in say an encyclopedia...but you couldn't just get up in the middle of class and go do that. I didn't have the ability to make a phone call whenver I pleased during school. There's no good reason a kid "needs" their cellphone during the school day.
Cell phones were normal by the time I was driving. I had one. It stayed in my car. If you didn't have a car, you turned it off and left it in your bag or locker. If you were seen with one during school hours, you got it confiscated. We all survived quite well.
I get why parents want there kid to have one. My 10 year old has a watch we can call or text to and from since he walks to and from school. It has a timed "school mode" where it shuts down all functions but time during school hours. It has to stay in his backback until he's walking home.

Watches are not phones. You're not playing Candy Crush on an Apple Watch (which are also banned in my school district.)
Again, there is no reason for the kids to have either. If parents want to get in touch with their kid, they call the school.

Cool, my grandparents used an ice box, shall we continue with more useless anecdotes?

these posts are so goddamn wierd
did you even read his post? he literally said his son doesn't take his watch out until he is walking home
my 12 year old has the same up, her watch locks during school hours and she has to keep it in her backpack, she can use it after the final bell

I graduated (public) high school about ten years ago and if a teacher saw a cellphone, you either got a warning to put it away or they took it away and your parents had to get it. When did schools stop doing this?
They didn’t. The problem is you had kids refuse to turn their phone over, and parents today always support their child, regardless. It’s “their property” was always the argument .

Yes, dumbass. The first thing his post did was conflate phones and watches as if they were the same thing. They are not. Watches are infinitely less bad than phones if the parents turn off the use of Siri, which kids were using to cheat with.

I'm not even sure when cell phones became allowed in the first place.
I graduated high school over a decade ago (won't say the exact year in order to keep my anonymity.) Cell phones were not allowed then when I was in high school. I was rather surprised to learn a few months ago that they apparently had become allowed at some point since I had graduated.

Sure.
Tell that to the parents. Parents preventing schools from appropriately disciplining kids is one of the biggest roadblocks here. Schools and teachers have long advocated for finding ways to exclude cell phone usage during instruction time.

I love the dipshits that argued this makes kids less safe. As if cell phones have been around in schools for 30+ years
The only people who have a problem with this are shitty parents or kids with a cell phone addiction

Sadly, it doesn’t take a full on majority to create some significant disruptions. Working in an at-risk school, they fueled a lot of fighting/aggressive behaviors and kids wanting to record them “going viral”. In higher achieving schools, they were often used for cheating and just general distractions.

It really all depends on your school admin and whether they back the enforcement. And depending on the school and population it’s either going to be a major issue that gets addressed or low on a long list of other issues.

My kids school did something like this. Essentially any non school issued tech (phones, smart watches etc) is banned. If they see it they take it and the parents have to come pick it up from the office. I told my son if his gets taken im not rushing up there to get it, ill do it in my own time.
