I guess it’s all relative. When I tell some guys that, they’re like, “You must’ve been bad!” But I actually wasn’t. Between principals, assistant principals, teachers, and coaches all having the right to paddle — and 12 years of going to school every day — I think that’s not that bad. Especially since you by the time you got to junior high, you had six teachers a day.

What’s a “big women paddle”?

In.
The only one I didn't deserve was in middle school when I was walking to home room from the office.(Dr's appt.)
Two of my knucklehead classmates asked for a hall pass and were running up the hall in the other direction hooting and hollering. One of the other teachers came out of their room right as the 3 of us passed each other. All 3 of us got a couple of wacks.

I was paddled with a paddle with holes in it before. But when I was in 7th grade, the Parish passed a paddling policy and one of the rules was no more paddles with holes.

Me too. Got paddled plenty at Sallie Humble and OCS.
ETA: OCS obviously isn’t a public school but they still paddled.

Our assitant football coach was in charge of report card enforcement.
It was so many "licks" for F's. Not as many for D's.

Late 1960's we had an English teacher in 7th and 8th grade who gave us a choice, paddle or stay after school. Almost everyone chose the paddle. The two who opted to stay after school all ended up being ghey.
Even worse was being sent to the principal who used a jockey bat which left whelps.

My middle school PE coach didn't mess around. If someone was acting up, everyone around them got paddled. I caught more than a few licks being adjacent to the actual shenanigans without actively participating in said shenanigans.
In hindsight, it was pretty effective at making us self-police.

Bout the same age as you. Around Atlanta at that time, elementary principal had a paddle and would make you sit in this big leather chair in his office. Would walk behind you and smack the ever living shite outta the chair, but don't think their was ever an actual arse whooping.

Same here. Started elementary in 1980 at a catholic school. The nuns had a long paddle shaped like an arm/hand with holes drilled in it. They didn’t need to call home to use it! Switched to public school around ‘85 and they didn’t but had to call home first. I think now, the parents have to give consent prior.

Retired coach here. I kept a " board of education " in my desk. Would always give the student choice of 2 licks or write up to asst. principal ( big mean fella). Most would choose 2 licks. Key was to do it in front of class in a fun way. One day I paddled a kid and subsequently found him to be innocent. Next day I bit the bullet and let him give me 2 licks in front of class. It hurt like hell, but after that those kids would run through a brick wall for me. Middle schoolers.

My fifth grade teacher made us get in push-up position and paddled us as if she were chopping wood. Usually about three licks.

I don’t know if the ones with holes in them were the worst, but they sure seemed like it. That whistling as the coach/principal swung inspired terror.

My HS coach used to paddle with a 2 in pvc pipe with holes drilled in it so you could hear it coming
