yes, because the definition of "marketable" isn't subjective at all.

why do you care? Its not your money. Some things- like furniture- aren't worth it to me to try and sell second-hand. And I have nice furnishings. But I'm not going through the hassle of dealing with it. My wife, will. But I won't. So I put it on the curb or send it to Goodwill.

I only do this when my butler needs an upgrade in their living quarters. I just put the old stuff on the curb for the poors to gather up.

Does this happen in your area?

Because FB marketplace isn't worth the hassle for an item you might only get $20-30 for and a lot of people don't feel comfortable having random internet strangers coming to their house to pickup items. So now you have to take time to go meet them somewhere, where a buyer may waste more of your time because they're running late or don't show up.
If I can't get at least $50-60 or so for the item, it ain't worth the hassle and I'll probably just set it at the curb for whoever wants it.

I'm not driving to meet someone over $40 with and I'm damn sure not giving Jaquavion my personal address when he messages me on FB Marketplace asking to come pick up whatever useless item I no longer need.
Yep. Plus half the replies are scams the other half want to haggle on price, regardless of how many times you tell them no.
Unless i'm getting $500 for something, its not worth selling to the public anymore.

Not worth the effort for $50 or whatever I’d get. I sometimes post stuff for free on my fb but if it’s something I want gone I just put it out.

Because time is money. If your time at your business/profession/with family is worth more than recouping money for an item you owned, its logical to just let someone have it or donate it. Its also fulfilling to make someone's day if you are fortunate. One example is I am giving a $1400 drum set to someone from my kids school today. Its collecting dust at my house, and the family that could really use it is so excited and appreciative to get it. I was going to give it to them, but they insisted on buying so I sold it to them for $100. Its a good feeling for me to see altruism at work.
I think its a mindset too. Some people have "it will be worth X amount of dollars in a few years when I sell it, I can afford that difference in cost so I will get it. If not for that I could never afford it" versus "All this stuff I get is worth $1 to me once purchased (if that), so if I am not willing to part ways with my money at the time of purchasing the item, then I just won't get it."

because that $150 toy isnt worth the time it takes to sell it for $40. Just put it on the curb and its gone with no work done what so ever.
this....plus not worth the risk of getting robbed at gunpoint over some shite you dont even want anymore.

I've picked up and sold 4 or 5 generators that just needed carbs cleaned and fuel lines replaced.
Exactly. Also easily tossed are flat screen tvs after a thunderstorm that only need a $20 power control board and window air units that only need $15 start/run capacitors.
I know a guy that grabs and fixes the acs then gives them to less fortunate people in the summer.

If want to get rid of something usable, I stick it on the sidewalk behind the office. Usually, it is gone within an hour.

We moved about 5 years ago and we had a good bit of stuff that was old or out of style that we could probably sell for $10 or something, but I just kept it in the garage and moved a piece or two down daily. Old office chair, coffee table the kids got marker on etc. The funniest was we had an old couch that was a spleeper. It was in the basement of the old house and we did not want it a the new house, so I dragged it to the curb. It smelled of cat pee as well. It got picked up in minutes and then the next morning it was back in front of the house. I guess old boys wife did not approve of the curb sofa. I called the city and told them someone dumbed it there bc it got rained on after they brought it back.

one of my friends loves looking for stuff on the curb. One year she picked up a huge star and idk if the cops came or the parish came but she had taken a star that the town of Brusly puts up during the holidays

Yeah people with big houses and money aren’t going to bother selling an old coffee table or entertainment center, especially in a true city neighborhood with a lot of foot and vehicle traffic
I imagine you don’t see much stuff out on the curb in a gated suburban subdivision tho if h

We do it and drink wine and watch behind the curtains as the poors scramble for it. We saw you the other day fight the old lady for that lawn chair. Nice move pushing her down right as she got to it!

I’m not going through the hassle to get $25 for my broken dryer

I once found 150' coiled up 1.5" dyneema rope sitting on the end of a docked barge in BR. They just left it there so I grabbed it. Use it too pull down trees to this day.

Move to a major city. They often do bulk trash pickup as part of regular trash removal. Every month the junk pickers come through ahead of the disposal trucks.
