That is their promotional offer, after that it is based on place to place. Once you make 5 purchases a month you get another promotional offer

This

A few years ago, I had Upside and GasBuddy that shows the cheapest gas around. And I found this the case every time.

And their commercials are annoying as shite.

Ive used the app now for a few years and no issues. Can use it at Popeyes and Fresh market for like 15-20% cash back which is pretty huge.

I’ve been using upside for about a year and a half. I have $425 credit. That’s $425 I wouldn’t have. I’m gonna use it to buy something I really don’t need, like a new golf club or a gun. I don’t see the problem

You are basically trading your data for a few cents off per gallon when you allow them access to your card info.

Not being a smart arse, but don’t they have all your data already?

I drive around 50k miles per year.

My vehicle gets 25 mpg.

50,000/25=2,000 gallons used per year.

I would guess my average cost per gallon of 87 octane fuel over the last year to be higher than $2.50/gallon.

So I’m at $5k per year on fuel.

If I needed to use 93 Octane (at an average additional $1.00 per gallon cost), my miles required would decrease to 37k per year to spend $5k per year.

I've been using it for 2+ years now. Drive a lot for work and my company pays my gas.

Same for me, though I don’t have to drive nearly as much as I use to. Here’s what I’ve made so far…

Back when I was a field rep, I’d make enough in a month to buy one, sometimes two models.

The only way it's worth using is if youre using a company card.

my question is this, do the stations that offer the most cash back typically have higher prices? would I actually be saving money as someone that buys my own gas

In my experience, yes. I save more getting gas at sams than using upside for a more expensive station. The cheaper gas stations that accept upside usually offer .02 off or so per gallon.

I signed up a few years ago but the nearest participating gas station was about 20 miles so I deleted the app. Maybe more stations participate now, idk.

have over $1100 cash back so far.

Over how long of a period?

$1100/10 cents = 11,000 gallons x 25mph = 275,000 miles

That's assuming my math is correct and you actually get 10 cents a gallon everytime.

I use it when I remember. It’s pretty easy. It’s not gonna pay for my vacation this summer, but it’s nice to get any kind of rebate considering what I’m paying out here.

I put 20K miles on my truck last year driving 40 mi each way to work. I have a diesel so it gets good mileage but costs 20% more roughly. My fuel bill was about $2400...

I get so amused at these ads when they say they are "making money" by using the app.

I’ve used upside for about a year. The station nearest my home is on their system, so why not? I also buy gas with a credit card from PenFed credit union that gives 5% cash back on fuel purchases. No annual fee and no limit. It’s automatically applied as a statement credit monthly. Lastly, I’m a marathon rewards member and enter my member number when getting gas. The incentives allow you discounts on fuel over time. It takes me an estimated 30 additional seconds to use all three programs. Free money for something I need… why not?

I signed up for it and used it a couple of times. I couldn’t collect the promotional rate because the receipt printer was out of paper and they don’t let you upload a receipt that is a copy. I had to go into the station to get the receipt and it had copy on the bottom.

The next couple of Times I used it, the station rejected the claims in the app, so I haven’t used it again.

I fill up at Sam’s and Costco, so the savings there are better than trying to find a station that is participating in Upside. Both of those places offer 5% cash back if you use their credit cards to pay for gas. I think Sam’s does it no matter what gas station you buy gas from.

Yup, I've been using it for a couple years now and I am at $1447 lifetime earnings. There are two Circle Ks that are close to me and they'll usually offer cashback on purchases inside the store as well. I use it with Chilis and stack with my Savor card to even more cashback on purchases there but other restaurants like Papa Johns, BWW, Little Caesars and Taco Bell will offer like 20% cashback.

The amount you get back per gallon at most places drops a good bit after you use it a few times so prepare for that

I stop at the same racetrac on 90 for gas. The further I am when I click on it, the more off it is. If I do it leaving my street its like 12 cents off. If I forgot to do that and pick the station as I pull up its like 1 cent. It does store purchases too so if I get my morning redbull its like 5% back
