I never served in the military and I don't know much about operations but how can one group of people piss off the entire world and still not be wiped off the face of the Earth?

Because Russia wasn't economically stable enough for a long campaign years ago.
The only country that could do it got bored and bitched and moaned constantly. Their leader had to make up excuses to push further and kept getting called out and harassed even more.
-Wrong targets will be hit (putting women and children in buildings and leaking it's a military structure).
-Friendly fire will happen.
-terrorism will slow during the onslaught, people will forget. Family's will still be losing soilders and social media will say "why"
Political suicide.

Well there's also the fact that everyone has the same enemy (everyone being the U.S., Russia, Iran, W. Europe, Turkey, Syria, etc.) in ISIS but they all expect different outcomes once they're finished. So it's not like there is a united front against ISIS.
Not to mention, the Western and Russian armies could roll ISIS over and squash them pretty quickly... but neither really wants that level of commitment to do it.

That's the problem. No one wants the same outcome.

I love Putin.
Let Russia send it's military against these frickers. They can police the world for a while.
We need to clean fricking house. Our inmates are running the asylum

Obama had a press conference. He decided to make a media event out of the entire BRPD driving up and giving gay Deray his bag back.
When asked about France, his reply was, "Oh, white people. Nah"

The simple answer is that this group spawns lone wolves that can easily find ways to take out large groups of people in a very short amount of time. It's literally the worst thing someone can do.
These lone wolves are hard to find until it's too late.

Maybe to a small extent. Isis exists because it is expedient to a lot of various interests and the foreign policies of several world powers create the conditions for such a group and actively strengthen it as opposed to fighting it.
Destabilizing the Middle East, indiscriminately handing out weapons, allying with all sorts of unsavory rebels, and intervening in the internal affairs of other nations against the will of the people for starters.
Notice how vague the military objectives have been for the last 15 years. U can't win a war without even defining what winning would be.

The love affair this board has with Putin is fricking disturbing

I was about to say the same thing. Why do I get the feeling that Putin had mull all this over for a while before he fell on one side of the fence?

I only wish Putin and other international leaders would have the guts to tell it like it is: Islam is the root cause of terrorism by instilling jihad in its followers.
