Besides that, I got in a bunch of political pissing contests, and it’s fruitless.
I don't know anyone who's mind was changed by a political post on Facebook post but yet millions of people on there will spend their time arguing and posting memes before they work on a campaign. Some of them don't even vote.

I had a MySpace account years ago.
Have never had Facebook, instagram, or TikTok.
Tigerdroppings is my only connection to the online world, and I’m close to fading it as it’s just local rednecks stealing a Reddit thread to seem cool. I’ve checked Reddit a couple of time for interest in fixing things but do not have an account.

I haven’t technically quit FB but for many years I just check it infrequently and when I do it’s just a few minutes of scrolling, some likes or brief comments. Never post otherwise. I’m happier that was but I must admit I often feel some disconnect because a lot of people seem to rely on it for announcements, happenings, etc., but that’s just the way it is.
I don’t do X much, only as an alter to shite post some.
None of the others.

I don't understand the people trying to equate this website and the social media you are referencing.
You are completely right, it is a sickness that does more harm than good.

if the majority of topics here are essentially extensions of more traditional social media, is it really that different?

TD and YouTube are the closest things I have to social media, and Youtube is pretty much limited to movies, documentaries, and other things I am interested in and subscribed to. Other than that, I killed my Facebook and TikiTok accounts a couple of years ago, and never bothered with Twitter/X, Instagram, or any of the others. I can't say I miss any of it or feel out of the loop on anything.

You wasted time posting a message about wasting time posting messages

Since I've quit, I've been able to more easily separate the person from their belief systems. I'm constantly in a better mood. I find myself more optimistic about life.
I am trying to get here. Better Mood. I started asking myself, does this really effect my life?
I would spend on average 30-40 hours/week between both of those apps.
Im just trying to start there.
Facebook, Im on market place a lot.
I have been spending more time on TD as a result.
But. Yeah. Trying to make some changes. I think your post here is right on.

TD / SECRant is my only social media
No iPhone
No (Twit)ter
No FaceBook
No Google
No Amazon
No X
No FOX talking heads
No MSNBC talking heads
No Tik Tok
I am pretty happy and well adjusted without ANY of this
My day is filled with gardening / cooking / yard work / house work / hounds / face to face with family + friends + neighbors. Grow my own foods and shop local merchants who are actually helpful. Get better fruits and vegetables off the truck or locally. Better than any of the stuff the big stores stock.

Eh, not so much about shooting the shite online. Like there's no one angry in this thread, no arguing, no bots (that we know of).....big difference between this and being inundated by a digital fire hydrant spraying shite in your face all day.
While others are busy evangelizing whatever bullshite they read online, I've found myself evangelizing that people need to get off that bullshite...it's poison, plain and simple. This was me just trying to share a positive story, and hopefully get some others to share their positive experiences, to encourage people, if nothing else, to just take a break from it all. Hell, even just reading some of the stories in this thread and using them to start recognizing how you feel when you're online or how you find those feelings carrying over into real life can be really eye-opening.

I still use FB to stay in touch with friends over the years and FB marketplace. That is all I have and all I use.
Cut out X/Twitter and IG years ago and miss it none.
I enjoy watching YouTube but its become nothing but ads based on algorithms and video suggestions. About to cut out YouTube as well.
