Problem is people lose their ability to drive going over the pearl river bridge on i10
And the detour takes you up to Texas Flat Road to near Picayune or MS-43 into Picayune proper. You have to take that detour in Bay St. Louis thanks to the security around Stennis.
It would be nice to detour using 607, but good luck getting through the gate on either end of Stennis.
Fun little story about the gate at Stennis, in 2014 a Houma baw got lost and must have been on the good stuff. He tried to drive on 607, but was stopped at the north gate. So, he was lost. He couldn’t find his way back home and eventually ditched his car in one of the side roads. He eventually left his car, phone, and his clothes in the woods. He walked around the woods and broke into a utility shed for warmth. The SO found him 24 hours later in the shed nekkid as a jail bird.

LSU Football and TAF donations do not pay for street repairs.

Are there any pictures of all these bridges?

Here is what I got from Google Maps Street View:
East Pearl - 2019
West Pearl - 2025
Looks like the West Pearl is the one with the major issues.
Street view was still showing you can access the boat launch from the East Pearl River Bridge.
The biggest issue with the project is that it may entail having to build 2 movible bridges, and 4 smaller bridges over the water between the 2 bridges. All of those bridges were built a long time ago when they didn't build bridges with shoulders and lower weight limits.
It also seems like DOTD has gone away from building bridges with Metal. Most bridges now are concrete and some even have concrete moveable decks instead of lighter metal grates.
This is the Bourg Bridge that opened this year it has a concrete movable span:
This is the new Galliano Bridge that has a concrete structure, but the center moveable span will be metal. In this photo they still have not moved it into place. This project too is falling behind. I was supposed to be completed in May of 2025, but it is still under construction. At least the contractor, order the hurricane traffic poles and they are installed. This intersection will only have a flashing light and not a stop light.

Thank God our Governor's focus is on Greenland, not roads and bridges.

Just wait, they are using I believe $60-70 a barrel for oil for future forecasting of budgets and the experts believe it will more than likely by $40-50 a barrel.

The dumbest part of this whole thing is how they seemingly got taken off guard that a series of 90 year old bridges had to go offline. Why didn’t they start planning for replacements 30 years ago like a normal state?

If we could just find out who fricked up the concrete on the new Highway 90 overpass at Ambassador Caffery by Lafayette. They poured two complete lanes of the bridge and then had to tear it completely out. Broke some of the beams.
It is not being talked about so I am betting the tax payers will get screwed.

The same broke arse organization decided to put the new "Baton Rouge" bridge closer to the sunshine bridge in Donaldsonville than downtown BR, which now will require 10 plus miles of new virgin roadway to build a loop around Plaquemine, and a new bridge over Bayou Plaquemine just to reach the nearest interstate on the west side of the river.
And 10 miles on a two lane road to reach an interstate on the east side of the river.

How are there 5 bridges on one highway at one state line? I can understand 2 (one for each direction) but 5???
Posted on 12/26/25 at 7:21 pm to Major Dutch Schaefer
Been saying it from the start, they're not going to be built until there's a massive uproar of an evacuation route being closed in order to get the feds to foot the bill.

1. They’re broke, but their primary source of funding is worth ~40% of what is was worth the last time it was increased.. and that’s without accounting for increased average fuel economy.
2. Objectively false to say it’s closer to the Sunshine Bridge.

I haven’t seen anything saying they intend to build a loop around Plaquemine?
Regardless, the bridge is intended for commuter traffic. This will ease congestion on the I-10 bridge during peak traffic hours. People advocating for “loop or bust” are failing to acknowledge that most of the traffic during peak congestion is not going all the way from 415 to I-10/12 pas the split (or vice versa). Yes, there will be improvements required to Highway 30 in the long run but that’s a much easier issue to solve than the bridge itself, unless we spend another 15 years talking about it before actually funding the damn thing.
Personally I think they should build it in Addis, but then people would complain about all of the traffic getting dumped onto Bluebonnet. There is no solution that everyone will be happy with. Even less so when you consider that the bridge will have to largely be funded by tolls.
This whole “it’s not perfect, therefore it’s stupid” mentality is a huge part of the reason the damned thing hasn’t been built yet.

Cost between 150 million to 350 million? Hopefully they aren’t agreeing to fund it until they know what the actual cost estimate is. I wish i
I could submit cost estimates like this and have them approved.

There 3 or 4 smaller bridges that cross the water built around the same time that also need replacing. Those are simple fixed bridges that are elevated above the water.

How many people drive this? The interstate is very close.
Anybody that works in Port Bienville and lives in Louisiana.
Plenty of people that work at Stennis.
People that live in Bay St. Louis or Waveland and work in New Orleans, or vice versa.
Lots of people use it.
