This is the kind of optics that pisses me off. Yes eggs are up. Yes bread is up.
The cost of an egg sandwich with cheese and maybe even bacon is maybe $2.50 and these prices are high:
Egg 75 cents
Toast- 15 cents
Cheese- 50 cents
Bacon- $1
Yet they claim to have 5% profit margin and are charging me $7 or this $17. Come on

Its ok that new socialist mayor will solve NY city's problems. That egg sandwich will be free
And that store owner probably supports the commie mooslim sympathizer. NYC gets every single thing thats coming to them. Just like the Palestinians.

I’m fascinated to know who gave you your business or if you are just the most elite troll on this site, because you’re a fricking moron

I don’t even like to go out to eat anymore because of the cost of meals now.
I have been sticking to meal prep for a long time now.

Yeah I don’t see restaurants actually slowing down.
Take canes for example.
This is a result of higher restaurant prices. A family of 4 use to be able to go to a local diner and have dinner for $50. That same $50 will get you more food from Canes. but the diner cost is now $100+.

People complain but never stop buying Mich Ultras or ordering delivery every night
For the life of me I don't understand this. If the customer is still willing to pay a higher price why would an owner charge less?

Yea, this.
Don't like it? Don't go. Eating out should be a minor luxury for thr middle class, not a daily occurrence, anyway

So just keep increasing your prices until you drive everyone out of your market?
Great idea

I don't know when the American consumer is going to start being more frugal, but I'm not seeing it yet.
I am there now, had a hankering yesterday for some Taco Bell but when it came to the total ($60+) for 5 people I decided drive my arse down to Kroger and buy $50 in groceries instead. If we do decide to go out to eat we will usually go to Chilis since the "3 for me" deal is the best value out of any restaurant.

I seem to remember it being a giant problem during Biden’s term.
No way.
Inflation was never discussed during Biden's Presidency. It's only discussed now solely for the purpose of hurting President Trump. No other reason.

I live in the poorest state. The economy is supposed to be bad and inflation is high, when then, is every restaurant packed? Along with all the $7 for a cup of coffee places?
They aren’t saving. At all. Not for a rainy day, not for retirement. Nothing.
And like you said, it’s not because they have more bills than money, it’s because they’ve made the decision to just spend it all on today.
I know several people with good salaries with that mindset, so it’s not just an income level thing.

Yup everyone bitching either STFU and pay or cook for yourselves.
And as a kid I had none of this “choice of what to eat” catered to crap. I ate what my mom cooked or I went hungry. Guess what? I ate it.

I think it would surprise some people how many people are already in their 50s without a penny of retirement money saved up.

We recently expanded our restaurant and almost doubled in size from 2700 sf to 4800 sf. At the old location our insurance was State Farm, but they wouldn't write the new location even though it was across the street. The old place insurance was $3500 a year plus about $2k for liquor liability insurance, there were zero claims on the policy. After shopping the new location through independent brokers the best bank for my buck was $31k a year, talk about sticker shock.

The Warden (no pics) and I decided to pop into Chik Fil A for a quick bite to eat on Saturday.
I think we've eaten there less that 10 times since they came to SoCal. Last time was when you could grab any sauce you wanted, without having to ask.
Anyway, two Chicken Club Combos were $34.00
Unbelievable.

The National Restaurant Association estimates that, to maintain a 5% profit margin compared to pre-pandemic prices, the average restaurant would have needed to raise prices by 31%, according to data compiled by the D.C.-based industry trade group earlier this year.
The higher prices you charge, the more profit you make, even if your profit margin percentage stays the same.

Are you working for free to make said sandwich? Is the building free? The gas/electric to cook said eggs, toast and bacon? The insurance to cover you when some dumbass sues because the coffee was too hot?
